Job summary

NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is seeking a Project Manager for civil infrastructure projects in the Riverina & Murray region, based in Wagga Wagga. This office-based role requires regular site inspections and client-side project delivery of low to medium risk schemes.

You will manage planning, contracting and delivery to meet time, cost, quality, safety and sustainability targets.

Qualifications

• Relevant civil engineering, architecture, building, or construction management qualification.
• 2–3 years minimum construction management or design management experience.
• Contract management experience including consultant and construction contracts.
• Ability to plan meetings and assist Senior PM.
• Excellent written, interpersonal and communication skills.
• Willingness to travel to regional locations with NSW Driver Licence.

About The Role

NSW Public Works (PW) is part of the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development and supports many different local and state government agencies to deliver critical infrastructure initiatives by providing expert advisory, planning, design, delivery and support services.

We are currently seeking a Project Manager to deliver projects across the Riverina & Murray region, based in Wagga Wagga. This role is office based but you will be making regular site inspections. The role is working on the client-side and being responsible for delivering one or more construction projects of low or medium risk and complexity. Alternatively, you may be assigned to a team managing the delivery of highly complex projects.

As a NSW Public Works Project Manager you will be expected to manage and contribute to the planning and delivery of building and civil infrastructure projects and ensure time, cost, quality, safety and environment targets and corporate expectations are met. Our Project Managers are responsible for the management and administration of contracts, including claims evaluation and negotiation.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Lead the overall delivery of civil infrastructure projects, client delivery provision and contract management.
• Ensure Project Risk Management (PRM) Plan, HSE, safety, health and environment, CSR and sustainability integration and continuous improvement compliance throughout the project life cycle.
• Utilise a range of project delivery methodologies, controlling the project against budget, time, quality, change, scope, risk, resource, and strategic objectives.
• Plan and monitor the cost of the project, ensuring compliance with the project budget, funding, and cost controls.
• Recruit and supervise project support staff to ensure the effective performance of the project team members.
• Act as the project liaison between the client, contractors, designers, approved activity undertakers, and staff; ensuring the timely and quality delivery of services and the contractual processes.
• Engage newly appointed consultants and activities end-to-end through the project.
• Ensure that contract stipulations and clauses are accounted for, and that the contractor and consultants are managed in-line with the construction timeline.
• Support the Senior Project Manager as project owner responsibilities may be delegated.

• Act as a team player and contribute to the overall “One Department” culture, value and effectiveness, across the Department to high quality projects—focus on professionalism.

Essential Experience

• Appropriate trade, post-trade or tertiary qualifications in civil engineering, architecture, building, construction management, or relevant field experience
• Demonstrated understanding and experience in managing the planning, procurement and delivery of building projects, or civil works
• Preferably 2-3 years minimum demonstrated construction management experience or design management experience
• Contract management experience, including consultant contracts or construction contracts and preferably GC21 and MW21 contract administration
• Contribute to infrastructure planning and delivery by actively participating in project planning meetings and executing assigned tasks under the guidance of a Senior Project Manager
• Excellent written, interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively within a diverse and multi-disciplinary environment
• Ability to effectively utilise digital tools and platforms to support project delivery
• Strong relationship skills, with an ability to influence positive outcomes and provide excellent client service
• Well-developed knowledge and understanding of current Work Health and Safety legislation and regulations
• Leadership qualities sound reasoning and problem-solving ability
• Current NSW Driver Licence and be willing to travel to regional locations, which may include overnight stays.
