Job summary

Department of Regional NSW is seeking an entry-level Project Manager to join the Hunter North West Region. You will assist senior managers with planning approval, design development, procurement and delivery of infrastructure projects across regional NSW.

The role supports the broader multi-disciplinary team working on civil, electrical, and civil works projects, with a hands-on, collaborative approach. We offer a 35-hour base week, flexible start/finish times, flex time, and generous recreation

Qualifications

• Qualifications in civil engineering, architecture, building or construction with 1–2 years practical design or construction experience.
• Enthusiasm and drive to deliver positive outcomes as part of a team.
• Hands-on, practical mindset to get things done.
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project).
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for a diverse environment.
• Current NSW Driver Licence with willingness to travel to regional towns.

About the role

NSW Public Works (PW) is part of the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development and supports local and state government agencies to deliver critical infrastructure initiatives by providing expert advisory, planning, design, delivery and support services.

This entry level Project Manager role will form part of our Hunter North West Region team. The role contributes as part of a multi-disciplinary team by assisting senior Project Managers with the planning, advisory, and delivery of infrastructure projects across NSW.

In this role you will be assisting senior project managers with planning approval, design development, procurement and delivery of projects across regional NSW. These projects may include:

• General construction or refurbishment projects on NSW State Government and local council owned buildings,
• Electrical projects, including solar and battery systems, EV charging systems,
• Civil works, including roads, water and wastewater infrastructure projects, flood mitigation and site rehabilitation.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have experience and knowledge of project management concepts, and/or construction and design experience. To be considered for this role, you will meet the following essential requirements which can be found in the role description, as well as the following:

• Appropriate trade, post-trade or tertiary qualifications in civil engineering, architecture, building, civil construction, construction management, or relevant field experience which includes 1-2 years practical experience in design or construction, or contract administration
• A high degree of enthusiasm and drive, with a strong desire to assist in delivering positive outcomes as part of a team
• A practical mindset with a hands‑on approach to getting things done
• Experience with Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, Project)
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively within a diverse and multi-disciplinary environment.
• Sound reasoning and problem‑solving skills
• Current NSW Driver Licence with flexibility and willingness to travel to NSW regional towns, which may include overnight stays.
