Job summary

The BMD Group is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our Constructions business unit in Townsville. You will lead engineering and supervision teams, provide onsite engineering services, and guide delivery from pre-contracts through to project handover across transport, defence and renewable energy sectors.

With a history dating back to 1979, BMD offers a strong pipeline of projects in North Queensland and beyond.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related discipline.
• 10+ years in civil infrastructure project delivery with at least 2 years in a project management role.
• Experience managing projects in transport, defence, or renewable energy sectors; DTMR project experience highly desired.
• Proven delivery of projects for major tier one or tier two contractors.
• Strong leadership, planning, and cost-control capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor engineering and supervisory teams to deliver innovative solutions.
• Provide onsite engineering services and technical support for project delivery.
• Contribute to pre-contracts and tender phases, identifying risks and opportunities.
• Deliver projects across metropolitan and regional Queensland, including Townsville.
• Ensure safety, environmental, quality, and contractual requirements are embedded in delivery.

About the Role

BMD is in a significant growth phase with a strong pipeline of projects in hand and as a result, we are looking for a Project Managerto join our Constructions business unit based out of Townsville.

This role will initially start in Pre-Contracts assisting with project bids across transport, defence and renewable energy sectors. Upon award, the role would transition into a delivery-based role either in Townsville or across North Queensland.

Drawing on your learnings from a successful engineering career, you will be self-motivated to mentor a full engineering and supervisory team to achieve innovative solutions to complex challenges. You will provide onsite engineering services and technical support to fearlessly strive towards safety, environmental, specification, design and contractual requirements. With a robust pipeline of projects ahead, you will be exposed to infrastructure projects across diverse sectors with opportunities to work in metropolitan and regional locations.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter with:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline
• A minimum of 10 years’ experience in civil infrastructure project delivery, with at least 2 years in a project management role
• Proven experience managing projects within the transport, defence, or renewable energy sectors - DTMR Project Experience Highly Desired
• Demonstrated success delivering projects for major tier one or tier two contractors
• Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to mentor and develop engineering and site teams
• Advanced knowledge of project planning, cost control, scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project) and contract administration
• High-level communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience liaising with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams
• A proactive approach to safety, environmental management, and quality assurance, with a record of embedding these values in project delivery
• A strategic mindset with the ability to contribute to pre-contracts and tender phases, identifying risks and opportunities
• Willingness to work on projects across metropolitan and regional Queensland as required
