Job summary

Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) invites applications for an experienced Project Manager to join the Major Maintenance Team. You will lead the delivery of discrete major maintenance and infrastructure projects, ranging in value from $0.1M to $10M, supporting ARTC's Annual Works Plan and strategic objectives.

You will manage projects end-to-end, including scope, cost, schedule, safety and environmental requirements, while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in engineering maintenance/constructio n of track, civil infra, signalling and structures.
  • Ability to lead teams in delivering major works projects.
  • Experience in tendering and negotiating contracts of varying complexity.
  • Strong cost, budget and schedule management skills.
  • Knowledge of Work Health and Safety principles and rail safety legislation.
  • Experience with critical path project programming and PM applications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of major maintenance and infrastructure projects per ARTC objectives and governance.
  • Manage scope, cost, schedule, safety, environmental impact, reliability and maintainability through all lifecycle phases.
  • Monitor and report progress, risks, issues, and milestones.
  • Coordinate stakeholders and approvals, including environmental and planning.
  • Develop Project Management Plans and ensure proper project planning.
  • Lead internal and external project teams to achieve objectives.
  • Minimise rail operation impacts and ensure safety, quality, environment compliance.
  • Manage contractors and consultants, including tendering and contracts.

About the Team

Our Operations team works with a diverse customer base to support several nationally significant supply chains. With management responsibility spanning across five states, our 8,500km rail network is used to transport bulk products, passenger and general freight, including steel and a vast array of consumer items such as groceries, electrical goods and other items for both import and export markets.

The Operations teams work within several complex and challenging environments, including some of the busiest rail corridors in Australia to deliver safe, efficient and sustainable service delivery outcomes for its customers, stakeholders and the community.

About the Opportunity

We are currently seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our Major Maintenance Team.

In this role, you will lead the delivery of discrete major maintenance and infrastructure projects, ranging in value from $0.1M to $10M, supporting the successful delivery of ARTC's Annual Works Plan and strategic objectives.

You will be responsible for managing projects across the full project lifecycle, from strategy and planning through to delivery and handover. This includes managing project scope, cost, schedule, safety, environmental impact, reliability and maintainability requirements.

Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, you will play an important role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and with minimal impact on rail operations.

Role can be located in Goulburn, Newcastle or Coffs Habour.

Regional travel to project sites will be required.

Key responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the delivery of major maintenance and infrastructure projects in accordance with ARTC's objectives, project management procedures and governance requirements.
  • Manage project scope, cost, schedule, safety, environmental impact, reliability and maintainability from strategy through to handover.
  • Monitor and report on the physical and financial progress of projects, including risks, issues, opportunities and key milestones.
  • Coordinate internal and external stakeholders and facilitate required approvals, including environmental and planning approvals.
  • Develop Project Management Plans and ensure projects are appropriately planned to support successful delivery.
  • Lead internal and external project teams, working collaboratively to achieve project objectives.
  • Plan and coordinate project activities to minimise impacts on rail operations and ensure work is undertaken in accordance with ARTC's safety, quality and environmental requirements.
  • Manage contractors and consultants, including tendering, procurement and contract negotiations where required.
  • Apply ARTC's Project Management Procedures across all stages of the project lifecycle.
  • Contribute to other projects and undertake other duties as required.
What do we want from you?
To be successful in this role, you will:
  • Bring extensive experience in engineering maintenance and/or construction of track and civil infrastructure and signalling and structures.
  • Demonstrate sound technical capability in design development.
  • Demonstrate experience leading teams in the delivery of major works projects.
  • Have experience in tendering and negotiating contracts of varying complexity.
  • Demonstrate strong cost, budget and schedule management skills.
  • Bring knowledge of, or an awareness of, Work Health and Safety principles and relevant rail safety legislation.
  • Demonstrate experience with critical path project programming and proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant project management applications.
  • Demonstrate commercial acumen and the ability to manage competing priorities in a complex operational environment.
It would be advantageous if you also have:
  • Hold a degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification and be eligible for membership of Engineers Australia.
  • Experience managing projects in a rail environment.
  • Knowledge and experience of Track Possession Windows and Track Occupancy planning.
  • Knowledge of railway systems.
  • Knowledge of Australian Standards for track infrastructure and the Railway National Code of Practice.
