Job summary

HEH Civil in Cairns is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead major civil infrastructure projects across Queensland. This site-based, boots-on-the-ground role involves working with the delivery team and engineering support to secure successful outcomes.

You will plan, program, procure and reschedule work, manage budgets and progress claims, supervise engineers and site teams, and maintain safety, quality and compliance.

Qualifications

• At least 10 years’ experience on civil construction projects at PM level in Australia.
• Degree in Civil Engineering.
• Experience delivering water infrastructure and TMR projects; airport/infrastructure experience valued.
• Current TMR personnel schedule approval.
• Proven track record delivering projects with strong commercial outcomes.
• Strong contract administration, programming and cost control.
• Experience managing progress claims, variations, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Experience mentoring Project Engineers and Site Engineers.
• Strong client & stakeholder management.
• Safety, quality, risk and problem-solving mindset.
• Field or plant operation experience is highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Administer the contract and protect HEH Civil’s commercial position

• Deliver Transport and Main Roads projects in line with contract, personnel schedule and reporting requirements
• Manage safety, quality, environmental and project compliance requirements
• Maintain accurate project records, reporting and documentation
• Build strong relationships with clients, superintendent, authorities and stakeholders
• Identify project risks early and make practical decisions to keep work moving
• Deliver projects safely, on time, within budget and to the required standard

HEH Civil is a respected and growing civil contractor of around 100 people, delivering road, airport, water and sewer, bridge, drainage and earthworks, plus other complex civil projects across Queensland.

About the role

At HEH Civil, our Project Managers are responsible for everything on their jobs. This is a site-based, boots-on-the-ground role, working alongside the construction delivery team with the support of your engineering team. You will have access to senior leaders when you need it, but you will be accountable for the overall project outcome.

About you

You will be an established civil construction Project Manager who is comfortable taking responsibility, making decisions and developing the engineers around you.

• At least 10 years’ experience working on civil construction projects in Australia at a Project Manager level
• A degree in Civil Engineering
• Proven experience delivering water infrastructure and Transport and Main Roads projects, with airport or other major civil infrastructure experience highly regarded
• Current Transport and Main Roads personnel schedule approval
• A track record of taking full responsibility for project delivery and commercial outcomes
• Strong contract administration, programming and cost control capability
• Experience managing progress claims, variations, subcontractors and suppliers
• Experience leading, mentoring and developing Project Engineers and Site Engineers
• Strong client and stakeholder management skills
• A practical approach to safety, quality, risk and problem-solving
• Field or plant operation experience will be highly regarded

Relocation

We are ideally looking for an experienced Project Manager who is willing to relocate to Cairns for the long term.

This is a permanent, full-time, site-based role in Cairns, with travel between project sites as required. Regional work may involve overnight stays depending on the project.
