Job summary

HEH Civil Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Project Manager for a site-based, permanent role in Cairns, Queensland. You will lead civil projects from delivery through to final accounts, working with a dedicated engineering team and senior management.

The role requires a minimum of 10 years’ Australian civil construction experience, a Civil Engineering degree, and proven capability delivering water infrastructure and MRT projects.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years’ civil construction project experience in Australia.
• Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering.
• Proven ability to deliver water infrastructure and Transport and Main Roads projects.

Responsibilities

• Manage a major project or several smaller projects at the same time.
• Lead planning, programming, procurement, resourcing and construction delivery.
• Manage budgets, forecasts, costs, progress claims, variations and final accounts.
• Administer the contract and protect HEH Civil’s commercial position.
• Lead and develop Project Engineers and Site Engineers, and manage Supervisors, subcontractors and site teams.
• Deliver Transport and Main Roads projects in line with contract, personnel schedule and reporting requirements.
• Manage safety, quality, environmental and project compliance requirements.
• Maintain accurate project records, reporting and documentation.
• Build strong relationships with clients, superintendent, authorities and stakeholders.
• Identify project risks early and make practical decisions to keep work moving.
• Deliver projects safely, on time, within budget and to the required standard.

HEH Civil is a respected and growing civil contractor of around 100 people, delivering road, airport, water and sewer, bridge, drainage and earthworks, plus other complex civil projects across Queensland.

We are large enough to deliver significant projects, but small enough that our Project Managers remain close to the work and have direct access to senior management. We hire for the long term and genuinely value and care about our people.

About The Role

At HEH Civil, our Project Managers are responsible for everything on their jobs. This is a site-based, boots-on-the-ground role, working alongside the construction delivery team with the support of your engineering team. You will have access to senior leaders when you need it, but you will be accountable for the overall project outcome.

About you

• At least 10 years’ experience working on civil construction projects in Australia at a Project Manager level
• A degree in Civil Engineering
• Proven experience delivering water infrastructure and Transport and Main Roads projects, with airport or other major civil infrastructure experience highly regarded
• Current Transport and Main Roads personnel schedule approval
• A track record of taking full responsibility for project delivery and commercial outcomes
• Strong contract administration, programming and cost control capability
• Experience managing progress claims, variations, subcontractors and suppliers
• Experience leading, mentoring and developing Project Engineers and Site Engineers
• Strong client and stakeholder management skills
• A practical approach to safety, quality, risk and problem-solving
• Field or plant operation experience will be highly regarded

Relocation

We are ideally looking for an experienced Project Manager who is willing to relocate to Cairns for the long term.

This is a permanent, full-time, site-based role in Cairns, with travel between project sites as required. Regional work may involve overnight stays depending on the project.
