MCA Engineering is seeking a Project Engineer – Mechatronics & Automation in Australia to support development and integration of machinery across a new engineering project. You will translate requirements into practical solutions, bringing together mechanical equipment, hydraulics, low-voltage controls and automation.

Based in Newcastle, NSW, with remote working arrangements possible and occasional attendance at the Thornton branch.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with automation experience.
  • Experience integrating machinery and automation systems.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic systems and electrical controls.
  • Knowledge of PLCs and HMIs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop concepts, layouts and system requirements for mechatronics projects.
  • Support integration of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and automation components.
  • Create basic 3D CAD models to communicate concepts and layouts.
  • Review technical drawings, hydraulic schematics and control information.
  • Coordinate project activities, schedules and deliverables with suppliers.
  • Liaise with engineering, workshop and site teams to resolve issues.

Project Engineer – Mechatronics & Automation

Please note: This role is based in Newcastle, NSW. Remote working arrangements may be considered, with attendance at our Newcastle branch required on several occasions throughout the contract.

About the Role

We are seeking a Project Engineer – Mechatronics & Automation to support the development and integration of machinery and equipment across a new engineering project.

Working closely with our engineering, workshop and project teams, you will help translate project requirements into practical solutions, bringing together mechanical equipment, hydraulic systems, low-voltage controls and automation.

The role combines preliminary design and basic 3D CAD modelling with project coordination, supplier engagement and technical support throughout fabrication, installation and testing.

Remote working arrangements will be considered, provided you are available to attend our Thornton branch on several occasions during the 3 month contract.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop preliminary concepts, equipment layouts and system requirements.
  • Support the integration of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and automation components.
  • Create basic 3D CAD models to communicate concepts, equipment arrangements and clearances.
  • Review technical drawings, hydraulic schematics and electrical control information.
  • Coordinate project activities, schedules, deliverables and technical documentation.
  • Work with suppliers to assess equipment options and confirm technical requirements.
  • Liaise with engineering, workshop and site teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Support testing, commissioning and troubleshooting of integrated machinery.
  • Contribute to design risk assessments and identify practical improvements to safety, operation and maintainability.
About You
  • Degree qualified in Mechatronics Engineering, or Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with relevant automation and integration experience.
  • Experience working with machinery, equipment integration or industrial automation.
  • Sound understanding of hydraulic systems and low-voltage electrical controls.
  • Familiarity with PLCs, HMIs, sensors and instrumentation.
  • Ability to develop preliminary designs and produce basic 3D CAD models.
  • Experience coordinating engineering projects, suppliers and technical deliverables.
  • Practical problem-solving skills and the ability to work closely with engineers and trades.
