Job summary

CMC invites applications for a Project Engineer to support reconstruction works on Mt Spec Road, north of Townsville, following substantial damage from heavy rainfall in 2025. The role focuses on slope stabilization, minor pavement repairs and culvert reconstruction.

You will collaborate with Supervisors and the Project Manager to deliver on-site civil works in a structured, safety-conscious team. Candidates should hold a Civil Engineering degree with 3+ years’ experience on road infrastructure

Qualifications

• Civil Engineering degree mandatory.
• 3+ years on civil infrastructure projects incl. road construction, earthworks, drainage, pavements per DTMR specs.
• Experience with self-performing and sub-contract works.

Responsibilities

• Develop and monitor construction programs with Supervisors and Superintendents.
• Coordinate resources (plant, labour, subcontractors) to meet milestones.
• Plan procurement of materials and subcontractors to support programs.
• Manage variations, quantity changes, and correspondence for scope adjustments.
• Monitor day costs and adjust unit costs as required.
• Prepare end-of-month cost reports with the Project Manager.
• Implement environmental controls where project impact is significant.

About The Role

CMC has been engaged to deliver the reconstruction works on Mt Spec Road, located just north of Townsville, after substantial structural damage to the road following record rainfall in early 2025.

We're currently seeking a Project Engineer to support the delivery of this complex rebuild which includes slope stabilisation works, minor pavement repairs and culvert reconstruction.

Primary Responsibilities

• Implementing or creating innovative, cost-efficient construction methodologies and techniques.
• Producing construction programs for the project together with Supervisors and Superintendents.
• Continuous monitoring of program throughout the life of the project ensuring milestones are completed on time.
• In conjunction with Superintendents and or Supervisors, planning the resources required to achieve the construction program (plant, labour, and subcontractors) and sourcing.
• Planning and implementing the procurement of materials and subcontractors to achieve construction programs.
• Working with Supervisors to recognise variations, quantity increases or decreases, and any additional scope of works to produce appropriate variation correspondence.
• Monitoring day costs for activities and adjusting if unit costs are excessive.
• The preparation and analysis of the end-of-mont project costs report with the Project Manager.
• Implementing environmental controls where the risk to the environment is serious enough to require monitoring.

About You

• A Civil Engineering degree
• Min 3+ years' experience on civil infrastructure projects with exposure to road construction including earthworks, drainage, culverts and pavements delivered to DTMR specifications.
• Have an understanding and experience of self-performing and sub-contract works
• A proven track record in HSE compliance and safety
• Be able to work as part of a team that is driven by success
• Possess excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Be self-motivated and adaptable with a 'can do' attitude
• Willing to travel and work away from home on various projects throughout Queensland or NSW on varying rosters when required.
