Forefront Recruitment is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join a major data centre project in Melbourne. The role is client-side, focusing on civil works, foundations and structure, with on‑site responsibility for monitoring programme, quality and delivery.
You will have led large packages and managed interfaces with head contractors, consultants and internal stakeholders. Salary ranges from AUD 150k to AUD 175k plus super and a bonus, reflecting seniority and project scale.
If you are an experienced Project Engineer looking to move client-side without losing your connection to construction, this is an opportunity to join one of Australia's largest data centre projects in Melbourne's west.
Large-scale project experience is essential. You will have worked as a Project Engineer, or an experienced Site Engineer already managing substantial packages, on a major commercial, infrastructure, industrial, defence or data centre project.
You should have independently managed civil, structural, in-ground services or base build packages for a tier one or established tier two head contractor. You will understand the programme, quality, safety and design coordination required on a large and complex construction site.
The role will initially focus on civil works, in-ground services, foundations and structure. You will represent the client on site, working closely with the head contractor, consultants and internal stakeholders to monitor programme, quality and delivery.
Your responsibilities will include reviewing construction methodology and short-term look-aheads, coordinating design and trade interfaces, monitoring inspections and quality documentation and identifying risks before they affect the project. You will also track RFIs, hold points, defects and closeout information while ensuring the head contractor remains accountable for delivery.
This is a client-side position, but the team remains closely involved in construction. You will work alongside experienced Project Managers who have delivered major projects, while being trusted to take ownership of your packages and make decisions.
The culture is collaborative, straightforward and low ego. People share information, support each other and work together when issues arise. Communication is clear and there is genuine camaraderie across the project team.
As the project progresses, you will have the opportunity to broaden your experience across fitout, operational areas and specialist data centre services. The business has a strong national footprint, an established pipeline and a long‑term program of work across Australia and the wider region.
Data centre experience is not essential. What matters is a solid large‑project background, strong communication and the ability to work constructively with builders, consultants and internal stakeholders.
The salary is $150k-$175k plus super and bonus, depending on experience.
