Qualifications

  • BS degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • 12 years Civil Engineering experience delivering civil construction projects.
  • 7 years’ experience in Coal Seam Gas industry.
  • Knowledge of civil construction standards and specifications.
  • Proven experience with safety management systems and HSSE principles.
  • Strong commitment to Safety and Environment.
  • Ability to manage a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proven experience managing civil contractors per contract terms.
  • Effective communication skills (open, direct, honest).
  • Experience with rural roads design and upgrade in Queensland.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, and manage civil engineering project work for delivery on time and under budget.
  • Provide civil engineering support to Well Engineering Construction team.
  • Apply HSSE in design, programming, and execution of activities.
  • Prepare tender and contract docs for civil scopes and Well Engineering deliverables.
  • Manage civil construction contractors and QA documentation (ITPs, tests, specs).
  • Identify and mitigate project delivery risks and manage contracts as Holder.
  • Liaise with Asset, Environment, Land Access, and Operations to meet expectations.

About the job

The Project Engineer will be accountable for driving safety and be responsible for planning, design, construction management, cost reporting and asset management for Civil Engineering project work. The role also involves providing project engineering (civil) support to the Well Engineering Construction team. You will have to integrate HSSE in the design, programming, and execution of all activities. Actively promote HSSE and Sustainable Development (SD) and ensure compliance with business principles. Ensure a safety-first culture to project delivery based on Goal Zero safety leadership. Liaise and negotiate with key stakeholders (Asset, Environment, Cultural Heritage, Land Access, Social Performance, Operations) to manage QGC’s expectations. Apply working knowledge of Project (Civil) Engineering for all duties including the requirements of Australian Standards, QGC procedures and Civil Construction Best Practices. Ensure Civil Construction Quality Assurance documentation is up to date and being followed by the Contractors (ITP’s, testing requirements, specifications and procedures). Work closely with QGC Construction Managers/Leads and Civil Contractors to ensure projects are delivered on time and under budget. Support the construction schedule with field supervisors to ensure flawless project delivery of all civil scopes across the wide geographical area. Apply working knowledge of Civil Construction techniques for varying civil scope (Roads, Well Pads, Hardstands, Bulk Earthworks, Ponds, Facilities, Drainage, Gravel Pits, Gravel material selection). Apply working knowledge of Civil Construction machinery to ensure QGC is getting value for money from Contractors. Develop should cost and best composite models for all Civil scopes to benchmark contractors. Contribute to the project strategy, project execution plan, contract strategy and management systems for project delivery of Well Engineering scopes. Prepare tender and contract documentation for civil construction scopes, project work & Well Engineering deliverables. Provide civil engineering technical input into design/specifications and construction. Manage civil construction contractors for the delivery of project work. Ensure effective implementation of project and financial control systems to monitor project progress. Contribute to the identification of risks to project delivery and eliminate these risks or implement mitigation measures. Manage contracts as a Contract Holder for relevant contractors. Manage bi-annual business performance (BPR) reviews with contractors to review compliance and performance against the contract KPI’s – HSSE, cost, delivery, social performance and quality.

Skills, Knowledge and competency requirements
  • Minimum B.S. Degree: Civil Engineering or equivalent Degree.
  • Minimum 12 years Civil Engineering experience delivering civil construction projects including design, construction, maintenance and execution.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience working in the Coal Seam Gas industry.
  • Knowledge and experience with civil construction standards and specifications.
  • Proven experience with safety management systems and the application of HSSE principles on construction, maintenance and rehabilitation projects.
  • Strong commitment to Safety and Environment
  • Ability to manage a team of diverse disciplines in engineering, supervision, labour and vendor personnel to deliver a safe and completed project.
  • Proven experience managing civil contractors in accordance with a contract terms and conditions.
  • A good communicator (open, direct and honest)
  • Proven experience with the geometric road design and pavement design of rural roads (sealed and unsealed) using design manuals and specifications.
  • Proven experience with managing and delivering upgrade and maintenance of rural roads (sealed and unsealed) in Queensland.
