Job summary

Shell is seeking a Control of Work Lead for onshore operations with offshore coaching to drive safe, reliable work execution. You will shape how people interact with systems, risks, and procedures, enhancing frontline decision making and performance improvement across Prelude & Crux related activities.

You will oversee the Control of Work committee, ensure system usability, and coach teams while coordinating with offshore personnel. Some offshore time is expected.

Qualifications

  • Production Technician/Operator background with exposure to complex operations.
  • Ability to communicate and engage different audiences.
  • Understanding of human performance principles.
  • Advanced computer proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Enable Safe Work Through Systems by implementing the Control of Work Improvement plan.
  • Anticipate and manage human performance risk and embed pre-task risk conversations.
  • Strengthen frontline decision‑making and coaching to improve task planning and execution.
  • Learn from normal work by embedding learning loops in Control of Work processes.
  • Lead through coaching and engagement and chair Control of Work Committee meetings.

About the role

The Control of Work Lead enables safe, reliable and effective work execution by shaping how people interact with systems, risks, and procedures. The role focuses on optimising human performance in complex operational environments, ensuring that work is understood, planned, executed, and recovered effectively.

Accountability

1. Enable Safe Work Through Systems That Work for People through the implementation of the Control of Work Improvement plan.

  • Ensure Control of Work systems are practical, intuitive, and usable in the field

  • Identify and reduce error‑likely situations (complexity, time pressure, unclear boundaries)

  • Translate procedures into frontline-relevant guidance that supports decision-making in real conditions

  • Validate that controls are understood, not just documented

2. Anticipate and Manage Human Performance Risk

  • Proactively identify performance traps (assumptions, confirmation bias, routine blindness)

  • Embed pre-task conversations that surface risk, uncertainty, and blind spots

  • Support teams to pause, question, and adapt when conditions change

3. Strengthen Frontline Decision-Making

  • Build capability in operators and supervisors to:

  • Support the training and assessment of learners in Control of Work competencies.

  • Promote use of open questioning and challenge during task planning and execution

  • Support shift leaders to create psychological safety for speaking up

4. Learn and Adapt from Normal Work

  • Drive learning from:

  • Embed learning loops into Control of Work processes

5. Lead Through Coaching and Engagement

  • Act as a coach and influencer, not just a technical expert

  • Chair the Control of Work Committee Meeting with the Offshore team.

  • Ensure continuity amongst the Permit Office Coordinators.

  • Engage teams and stakeholders to:

  • Support leaders to reinforce:

Be the PermitVision owner for Prelude & Crux

  • Serve as the primary system expert for PermitVision, ensuring it supports clear, safe and effective work execution.

  • Ensure control of work role integrity by aligning user access with their competency.

Skills & Requirements
  • Production Technician/Operator background with exposure to complex operations. Offshore experience preferred but not necessary.

  • Ability to communicate and engage different audiences

  • Understanding of human performance principles

  • Advanced computer proficiency skills in Microsoft office

  • Strong understanding of:

Whilst the position is onshore based, some time will be required offshore to support performance improvement and coaching as well as process compliance and effectiveness assurance.
