Openx Doors is seeking an experienced Engineering Project Manager to lead design and engineering for large door systems across aviation, defense, mining and industrial sectors.
You will oversee multiple projects, coordinate with engineers, draftsmen and construction teams, and ensure design compliance, scheduling and documentation are met. Strong leadership, communication and travel readiness are essential assets.
Work hours: Flexible – Office Open 6.00am - 6.00pm
Comments: Remote work agreements available. Minimum of 2-3 days per month on site.

The role involves taking responsibility for managing projects through he design and engineering phase working with engineers, draftsmen and the construction team. The role will include running multiple projects at one time.

Design Management: Manage large and high compliance projects through engineering department with the assistance of the drafting team
Design Drafting: Produce 2D and 3D concept and detailed design drawings for ETO projects and engineering certification
Project Management: Track and record the progress of projects as they move through the engineering department ensuring budgets and lead times are met
Manufacturing Documentation: Manage the creation of project BOMs (Bill of Materials), and MTOs (Material Take-Offs) with the assistance of the drafting team
Engineering Liaison & Certification: Manage and coordinate the Mechanical and Structural certification of new designs; through the use of external subcontractors
Installation Documentation: Creation of site specific installation drawings and procedures
Project Specific Documentation: Creation of operation and maintenance manuals, design briefs, as built records and other project specific documents as required
Customer Liaison: Communicate designs and liaise with clients, providing design advice, feedback and guidance during the pre-construction phase.
Quality Control Checks: Verify the accuracy of manufacturing outputs against design specifications including models, drawings and BOM’s
Information Handover: Lead the handover of information from engineering to the procurement and production departments
Safety and Risk Management: Lead Safety analysis, risk assessments and DFMEA creation for new and existing designs
Product Improvement Initiatives: Lead the review of in-service and concept product performance and undertake design enhancements.
Site Assessment Support: Occasionally visiting site to lead site surveys, fault finding and preliminary design of site/project specific components.
Mentor and Training: Provide advice, mentoring and assist with the training of new engineering and draftsman
Prototype Development Support: Coordinate the development, testing, and refinement of prototypes for new designs.
Supplier & Fabricator Liaison: Provide technical explanation and assistance to fabricators and external suppliers
Undertake other duties as reasonably directed by management, within the scope of the role.
Formal Education: Degree in a relevant field is ideal.
5+ years working in the construction and engineering industry.
High proficiency in 2D drafting, steel detailing, and drafting automation.
Strong project management, decision-making, time-management and leadership skills.
Ability to interpret and apply Australian Standards and technical specifications.
High level understanding of fundamental mechanical and structural engineering principles.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English as primary language).
Ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, associations, authorities, influencers, and consultants.
Ability to contribute to and work as part of a small and dynamic team.
Ability to manage multiple projects in different geographical locations at once.

Experience with Tier 1 construction document control systems and processes
Experience with Defence HOTO documentation.
Solidworks or similar 3D CAD Software
AutoCAD or similar 2D CAD Software
Experience with project/work scheduling software – MS Project, Smartsheet etc.
Experience with project management software – Aconex, Procore etc.
