Job summary

Gamuda Engineering seeks a Project Accountant in central Melbourne to support the finance and project commercial team. You will assist with job cost control, financial administration, subcontractor claims, and month-end reporting across active project operations.

Reporting to the Senior Project Accountant, you will contribute to cash flow forecasts, accounting entries, and ERP data integrity, ensuring GST/BAS compliance and governance standards.

Qualifications

• Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce; CPA/CA studies or ambition highly regarded.
• 1–3 years in graduate/junior accountant role within construction, engineering, or project environments.
• Strong understanding of foundational accounting principles, job cost control, and P2P workflows.
• Advanced MS Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP) and exposure to ERP/job costing software such as Jobpac, SAP, COINS.
• High numerical accuracy and collaborative mindset.

Responsibilities

• Process day-to-day project accounts, including invoice matching, credit card reconciliations, and accounts payable/receivable.
• Assist with month-end close, journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, cost-to-complete tracking, and variance reporting.
• Support subcontractor payment claims reviews, variation registers, retention tracking, and supplier reconciliations.
• Help prepare monthly project cash flow forecasts, financial reporting packs, and audit documentation.
• Maintain financial data integrity in ERP systems and ensure GST/BAS compliance.

About the Role

Based in our central Melbourne office, we are seeking a motivated Project Accountant to support our expanding finance and project commercial team.

Reporting to the Senior Project Accountant, you will assist with job cost control, financial administration, subcontractor claims, and month-end reporting across active project operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Process day-to-day project accounts, including invoice matching, credit card reconciliations, and accounts payable/receivable
• Assist with month-end close, journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, cost-to-complete tracking, and variance reporting
• Support subcontractor payment claim reviews, variation registers, retention tracking, and supplier reconciliations
• Help prepare monthly project cash flow forecasts, financial reporting packs, and audit compliance documentation
• Maintain financial data integrity in ERP systems and ensure compliance with Australian GST, BAS, and corporate governance standards

Skills and Experience

• Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce (CPA/CA studies or ambition highly regarded)
• 1–3 years in a graduate, junior, or assistant accountant role within construction, engineering, or project-based corporate environments
• Strong understanding of foundational accounting principles, job cost control, and purchase-to-pay workflows
• Advanced MS Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs) and exposure to ERP/job costing software (e.g., Jobpac, SAP, COINS)
• High numerical accuracy, sharp attention to detail, and a collaborative team mindset
