Job summary

City of Darwin is seeking enthusiastic Programs Assistant Casuals (Junior/Senior) to deliver a range of children’s programs and activities in the Library and Family Services team. You’ll support the Fun Bus and holiday programs for families with babies to 12-year-olds across Darwin.

Roles include outdoor activities, lifting equipment, and working across multiple locations. Level 1 and Level 2 pay rates apply, with casual loading and penalties. Applications close 22 September 2026.

Qualifications

  • Cert II in Children Services or a minimum of two years relevant experience.
  • Ability to engage with young children in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Ability to be a role model for young children.
  • Senior role requires Cert III in Children Services or equivalent qualifications and three years relevant experience; Class C driver’s licence.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a broad range of children’s programs and activities for Darwin’s diverse community.
  • Work with the Family and Children’s Services team to run the Fun Bus and in- park activities.

We are looking for vibrant (Junior/Senior) Programs Assistant Casuals to join our Library and Family Services team to deliver a broad range of children's programs and activities to Darwin's diverse community.

City of Darwin Family and Children's Services delivers the Fun Bus mobile playgroup program, Monday to Friday at different locations throughout the municipality of Darwin for families with babies to 5-year-old children. The team also, provides Fun in the Parks school holiday program and children's and family activities and events. These programs are FREE, fun and an informal space where parents, carers, babies and children can come together to have fun, play and learn in a relaxed and friendly environment.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Children's Programs Officer, this role focuses in working with the Family and Children's Service team to deliver a broad range of children's programs and events for Darwin's diverse community.

To be considered for the role you will have

excellent customer service skills and passionate about providing high quality educational and play-based programs to children aged 0 to 12-year-old.

You will be required to do physical lifting of equipment and participation in outdoor activities with children and families at different locations throughout Darwin.

Mandatory requirements for the junior and Senior role
  • Hold a valid Working with Children Clearance (OCHRE)
Essential for Level 1: Junior
  • Cert II in Children Services or a minimum of two (2) years relevant experience.
  • Ability to engage with young children in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Ability to be a role model for young children.
Essential for Level 2: Senior
  • Cert III in Children Services or equivalent qualifications and three (3) years relevant experience in children services or customer services.
  • Hold and maintain a Class C driver's licence.

Ability to obtain a National Police Records Check.

This position is remunerated for Level 1 - $35.6209 & Level 2 - $37.6414 per hour + casual loading or penalty rates.
