Job summary

Surry Hills Print & Design is seeking an experienced Production Manager to oversee our busy digital print and production operation in Surry Hills, NSW.

This full-time role requires hands-on leadership of a small team and day-to-day management of print production, coordinating workflow from pre-press through finishing and dispatch, and meeting customer deadlines with high-quality output.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years' experience in digital print production, with supervisory or management exposure preferred.
• Strong practical knowledge of digital and large-format printing.
• Experience with production workflow, scheduling and job prioritisation.
• Understanding of pre-press, file preparation and colour management.
• Thorough understanding of print finishing and quality control.
• Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
• Ability to lead, motivate and coordinate a small production team.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to assess priorities and make practical production decisions.
• Good communication with customers and suppliers.
• Proactive approach to identifying and resolving production issues.
• Commitment to quality, accuracy and meeting deadlines.
• Australian permanent residency or citizenship is required.
• Unrestricted, ongoing working rights in Australia; no visa sponsorship offered.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day operation of the digital print production department.
• Plan, schedule and prioritise production work to meet deadlines.
• Coordinate workflow across digital and large-format printing, finishing and dispatch.
• Supervise, support and allocate work to production staff.
• Operate and oversee digital print equipment including copiers and printers.
• Review incoming artwork and ensure files are production-ready.
• Maintain high standards of colour accuracy, print quality and finishing.
• Identify and resolve production, equipment and file-related issues.
• Monitor deadlines and address potential delays.
• Manage consumables like paper, inks and toners.
• Coordinate routine equipment maintenance and liaise with technicians.
• Implement and improve production procedures for efficiency.
• Conduct quality control throughout production.
• Keep production area organized, safe and clean.
• Assist with staff training and development.
• Collaborate with management, customers and team to ensure timely delivery.
