Job summary

Orrcon Steel, part of the BlueScope family, is seeking a Production Engineer for a 12-month fixed-term contract in Unanderra. You will identify improvements to equipment, processes and systems to boost safety, quality and productivity.

The role involves data analysis, problem solving, and supporting projects from concept to commissioning, collaborating with maintenance, engineering, and suppliers.

Qualifications

• Analytical, data driven and systematic approach to projects and processes.
• Experience with LEAN, Six Sigma, 5S or TPS manufacturing systems is desirable.
• Experience applying engineering knowledge in manufacturing/industrial environments.

Responsibilities

• Analyse production data to identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, productivity and efficiency.
• Investigate production issues and help implement practical engineering solutions.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives, process trials and equipment upgrades.
• Apply root cause analysis (RCA) and FMEA techniques.

The Opportunity

Orrcon Steel is looking for a Production Engineer (12 Month Fixed Term Contract) to join our team in Unanderra. Orrcon Steel is a manufacturer of steel tube and pipe andleading Australian steel distributor with nationallyrecognised brands.

The Unanderra Orrcon Steel mill is a cutting-edge facility that represents a significant milestone in our commitment to innovation and excellence in steel manufacturing. The Unanderra mill is instrumental in producing our renowned StrucTube branded product, catering to the diverse needs of our customers.

In this role, you will identify improvement opportunities to equipment, processes and systems - based on process and data analysis, as a result your improvements will increase site safety, efficiency and product quality for the future operation of the plant.

What will you do?

As a Production Engineer, you will:

• analyse production data and identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, productivity and operational efficiency
• investigate production issues and help implement practical, sustainable engineering solutions
• support continuous improvement initiatives, process trials and equipment upgrades
• apply structured problem-solving tools, including root cause analysis and FMEA
• assist with engineering projects from concept and design through to commissioning and handover
• work closely with production, maintenance, engineering, contractors and suppliers
• develop and maintain operating procedures, drawings, equipment information and project documentation

More about you

Supported by an Engineering degree, you will have experience in applying your engineering knowledge within a manufacturing or industrial environment.

You will bring:

• a Mechanical engineering degree
• proven knowledge and a track record of mechanical engineering design - including the completion and checking of detailed drawings and calculations
• a general knowledge of Inventor and AUTOCAD as well as other engineering analysis packages
• an analytical, data driven and systematic approach to all projects / processes
• experience implementing and using world’s best practice manufacturing systems such as LEAN, Competitive manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, TPS etc.
• understanding of processes such as FMEA, HAZOP, RCA etc.
• a strong safety focus, strong relationship building and the ability to work collaboratively with a team and many customers
