Job description

The opportunity

Our client is an established IPP in Australia. They holds a substantial operating portfolio and a growing development pipeline of wind, solar, storage and hybrid projects across the country. Several projects are moving from development into construction over the next 12–24 months, so the business is adding an experienced procurement and contracting professional to its commercial team.

This is a client side role in a lean, well backed business. You’ll have real ownership, direct access to senior leadership and the chance to shape how major projects are contracted from the earliest stage.

The role

Reporting to the Head of Procurement, you’ll lead the contracting strategy and negotiation of the major agreements that take projects from development to financial close and into construction. The first 9–12 months will focus heavily on BoP contracting for a wind project.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop procurement and contracting strategies for utility-scale projects, including the delivery model, package structure and risk allocation
  • Lead tender processes for primary and secondary packages, from market engagement and RFP through to evaluation and award
  • Negotiate and close key project agreements, including BoP/EPC, turbine and equipment supply, long-term service and O&M, and grid connection
  • Prepare commercial inputs for investment cases, approval papers and executive and board updates
  • Identify and advise on commercial and contractual risks across the development pipeline, working with external counsel and advisors
  • Set up Early Contractor Involvement arrangements and support contract management into construction and commissioning
About you
  • 5+ years’ experience in procurement, contract negotiation or commercial management in renewables, ideally working for an IPP
  • Proven experience leading negotiations on a split-scope wind or BESS project. Wind is highly regarded
  • Strong understanding of renewable contract structures and risk allocation (EPC, BoP, TSA, LTSA/O&M)
  • Exposure to financial close, including lender requirements and project insurances
  • Strong commercial judgement, good legal literacy and confidence leading negotiations with major contractors and OEMs
  • A collaborative, low-ego approach, and comfort working in a lean, fast-moving team
