Job summary

Pelleton Renewables in Queensland seeks a senior Process Engineer to own the demonstration plant and its hybrid drying and pelletisation technology. You will run daily operations, optimise processes, and lead FEED for customer projects in a hands-on, remote-enabled environment.

You will guide junior engineers, support feasibility studies, scale-up, and commercialisation, and develop technical dashboards and KPI tracking. Strong communication and practical experience are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Process Engineering or related field.
• 5–12 years of experience as a process or mechanical engineer.
• Experience in waste management, bioenergy or related process industry preferred.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
• Willingness to be hands-on in a demonstration plant environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead operation of the demonstration plant, including customer demonstrations and process optimisation.
• Support FEED/design for customer projects: feedstock and drying feasibility, heat and mass balances, process simulation, equipment sizing, scale-up and site integration.
• Prepare and maintain design deliverables: PFDs, P&IDs, datasheets, control narratives and operating philosophies.
• Collect and analyse plant and lab data, applying AI-based tools for process modelling and customer assessments.
• Contribute to R&D, including feedstock characterisation and product formulation.
• Support commercialisation through commissioning documentation, performance-test Protocols, operator training materials and lessons learned.
• Develop and maintain technical dashboards and KPI tracking systems.

About Pelleton Renewables

Pelleton Renewables is a Swiss clean-tech company and a leader in biomass and bio-waste management technology. Our patented chemical desiccation process replaces conventional thermal drying, achieving around 80% volume reduction with 82% less energy and 34% lower CO₂ emissions, while converting waste streams into valuable pellet products. The technology is proven at our fully automated demonstration plant in Yatala, Queensland, and we are now preparing for commercial scale-up.

The Role

We are seeking a senior Process Engineer to take technical ownership of our demonstration plant and the hybrid drying and pelletisation technology behind it. The role spans daily plant operation and process optimisation through to front-end engineering design for customer projects. You will act as the senior technical point of contact for customers during demonstrations and design reviews, support the technical direction for feasibility, scale-up and commercialisation, and guide junior engineers and plant operators.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead operation of the demonstration plant, including customer-facing demonstrations and ongoing process optimisation.
• Support concept and front-end engineering design for customer projects: feedstock and drying feasibility, heat and mass balances, process simulation, equipment sizing, scale-up and site integration.
• Prepare and maintain process engineering deliverables such as design criteria, PFDs, P&IDs, datasheets, control narratives and operating philosophies.
• Collect and analyse plant and laboratory data, applying AI-based tools for process modelling and customer assessments.
• Contribute to R&D, including feedstock characterisation, product formulation and technology improvements.
• Support commercialisation through commissioning documentation, performance-test protocols, operator training materials and lessons learned.
• Develop and maintain technical dashboards and KPI tracking systems.

Your Profile

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Process Engineering, or a related field.
• 5-12 years' experience as a process or mechanical engineer, with strong skills in interpreting engineering drawings, P&IDs and specifications.
• Experience in waste management, resource recovery, bioenergy, water, food, minerals, chemicals or another process industry; drying, dewatering, pelletising or organic-waste processing experience is an advantage.
• Solid understanding of HSE standards and risk assessment.
• Strong analytical skills and excellent written and verbal English.
• Willingness to be hands-on in a demonstration plant environment.
• Self-driven and entrepreneurial, comfortable in an independent, empowered and remote working set-up.
