Job summary

NTT DATA is modernising core platforms for Managed Services with an Azure-first, multi-cloud approach. We are seeking a Principal Platform Engineer who will shape architecture, guardrails, and automation across teams in a hands-on senior role.

This position focuses on platform design, reusable patterns, and self-service capabilities to enable rapid, secure delivery at scale in a hybrid APAC environment.

Qualifications

The Opportunity

We are modernising the core platforms that underpin our Managed Services business and building an Azure-first, multicloud platform that can scale across teams, clients and services. This is not a role for someone who has only operated within an already mature platform. We are looking for a Principal Platform Engineer who has helped design, build, modernise or significantly uplift cloud environments from the ground up, including the standards, guardrails, automation and operational patterns other teams depend on. This is a senior individual contributor role with no direct reports, but significant technical influence. You will set technical direction, define reusable patterns, guide engineering teams and create golden paths that allow teams to deliver quickly, safely and consistently. This role suits someone who stays hands-on, thinks in platforms, and is comfortable being the person teams turn to when the architecture gets complex

What You'll Do

• Lead the technical architecture of our Azure-first, multi cloud platform.
• Design and modernize platform foundations, including landing zones, identity, networking, security, governance, observability, automation and operational controls.
• Define standards, reusable patterns and guardrails that engineering teams can build on.
• Create golden paths and self-service capabilities that reduce ticket dependency and improve delivery speed.
• Set direction for infrastructure as code and CI/CD, with Terraform as a primary tool.
• Embed governance, security and cost controls as code, aligned to the Azure Well-Architected Framework.
• Improve reliability through observability, backup, disaster recovery, resilience patterns and clear RPO/RTO expectations.
• Work with operations and service management teams to ensure platforms are supportable, observable and operationally ready.
• Drive automation-first platform engineering through IaC, policy as code, runbook automation and event-driven remediation.
• Partner with automation and AI teams to ensure the platform can support future AI-enabled and agentic workflows safely.
• Influence technical decisions across multiple teams without relying on formal authority.

What we’re looking for:

• Strong production experience designing, building and operating Azure platforms at scale.
• Proven experience building, modernizing or significantly uplifting cloud platform environments, not just operating within existing platforms.
• Deep knowledge of Azure landing zones, management groups, subscriptions, networking, Entra ID, governance, policy, security, logging, monitoring and operational controls.
• Strong infrastructure as code experience, ideally with Terraform.
• Experience creating reusable engineering patterns, modules, pipelines, standards or golden paths.
• Practical experience with CI/CD, Git-based workflows and automation.
• Strong understanding of cloud security, identity, secrets management, segmentation, compliance and secure-by-default design.
• Experience with observability, reliability engineering, backup, disaster recovery and operational readiness.
• Good understanding of cloud cost management, tagging, policy controls and FinOps principles.
• Working knowledge of at least one other cloud platform, such as AWS or GCP.
• Ability to influence architects, engineers, security teams, operations and product teams through strong technical judgement.

Nice-to-Have:

• Experience in managed services, technology services, outsourcing or enterprise platform environments.
• Experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Bicep, PowerShell, Python, Kubernetes, AKS, container platforms or API gateways.
• Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Sentinel, Defender for Cloud, Datadog, Splunk or similar tooling.
• Experience with ServiceNow, ITSM integration, operational readiness, change governance or service transition.
• Experience building internal developer platforms or platform-as-a-product capabilities.
• Experience with automation platforms such as Ansible, Azure Automation, ServiceNow Flow Designer, Logic Apps, Rundeck or similar.
• Experience building platforms that enable automation, AIOps, self-healing, event-driven remediation or agentic workflows.
