Job summary

UGL Regional Linx seeks a Principal Rail Corridor Access Engineer to provide technical leadership across corridor access activities for the NSW CRN. You will guide decisions, mentor the team, and collaborate with government, developers, and utilities to deliver safe, sustainable outcomes.

You will lead a team of specialists, review proposals, and champion continuous improvement in engineering practices while aligning with asset management principles.

Qualifications

• A tertiary qualification in Engineering (Civil Engineering preferred).
• Strong technical and engineering assessment skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support the Corridor Access team to deliver high-quality engineering outcomes.
• Provide technical leadership and assurance for third-party works and corridor access proposals.
• Review proposals against CRN standards to identify safety and operational risks.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary assessments involving track, civil, structural, signaling, and more.
• Oversee Heavy Vehicle application assessments with the appropriate team.
• Collaborate with applicants, designers, utilities, councils, and stakeholders to resolve challenges.
• Provide clear engineering advice and recommendations for informed decisions.
• Mentor and develop team members through coaching and capability-building.
• Champion continuous improvement across systems, processes and templates.

About The Role

As Principal Rail Corridor Access Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across corridor access engineering activities, supporting projects and developments that interact with the CRN network.

This is an influential role where you will work collaboratively with engineers, planners, government agencies, developers, local councils, and industry partners to ensure safe, practical, and sustainable outcomes for the network and the communities it serves.

You will lead a team of specialists, guide technical decision-making, and help shape the future of corridor access processes while supporting the continued growth and development of your team.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead and support the Corridor Access team to deliver consistent, high-quality engineering outcomes.
• Provide technical leadership and assurance for third-party works, development applications, corridor access proposals, property activities, and related projects.
• Review engineering proposals against CRN standards and asset management principles, applying sound judgement to identify and manage safety and operational risks.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary assessments involving track, civil, structural, signalling, telecommunications, geotechnical, maintenance, and operational stakeholders.
• Oversee Heavy Vehicle application assessments with the support of the Heavy Vehicle Coordinator and Structures Engineer.
• Collaborate with applicants, designers, utilities, councils, and internal stakeholders to resolve technical challenges and develop practical, safe solutions.
• Provide clear engineering advice and recommendations that support informed decision‑making.
• Mentor and develop team members through coaching, knowledge sharing, and capability‑building initiatives.
• Champion continuous improvement across systems, processes, templates, and engineering practices.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency while maintaining safety, compliance, and asset integrity.

About You

We're looking for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, working collaboratively, and supporting the development of people and processes.

You may have experience in rail, transport, civil infrastructure, construction, utilities, or a related industry and bring:

• A tertiary qualification in Engineering (Civil Engineering preferred).
• Strong technical and engineering assessment skills.

• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
