Hitachi Rail Limited in Brisbane, Australia is seeking a Principal Project Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The role covers administrative to strategic tasks and is based in Brisbane, AU.

You will lead planning, engineering delivery, design reviews, and risk management for complex rail signalling projects. The ideal candidate has 5+ years in project engineering within rail, systems, and signalling, with experience in ETCS/ERTMS/CBTC turnkey projects and strong stakeholder

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering or Computer Science required.
• 5+ years in a Project Engineering role with rail, systems and signalling experience.
• Turnkey rail signalling project experience (ETCS/ERTMS/CBTC) desirable.
• Experience in resource management and leading a multicultural team.
• Experience in real-time system engineering, testing, integration and safety-critical techniques.
• Agile mindset with ability to make prompt decisions.
• Ability to analyse data and build stakeholder relationships.

Responsibilities

• Plan engineering activities with the Project Manager and design teams.
• Provide engineering management, delivery, and change management.
• Lead design reviews and manage configurations.
• Prepare engineering status reports including risk reviews.
• Obtain technical approvals and manage configuration items.
• Oversee systems engineering and continuous improvement with safety focus.
• Ensure activities comply with safety and quality standards.

Job Description:

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Principal Project Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Brisbane, Australia .

Key responsibilities:

• Planning of engineering activities in conjunction with the Project Manager, system and subsystem design teams
• Engineering management, delivery, and change management
• Design review and management
• Engineering status reporting incl. risk reviews
• Technical approvals and configuration management
• Systems engineering
• Ensuring all activities undertaken are conducted with due regard to a high level of continuous improvement
• Ensuring all activities undertaken are conducted with due regard to a high level of safety

Key knowledge and experience:

• Degree in Engineering or Computer Science with background in Electrical/Mechanical/Systems Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in a Project Engineering role, with experience in rail, systems and signalling.
• Experience in turnkey projects (within rail signalling) highly desirable, particularly delivering systems such as ETCS, ERTMS and CBTC.
• Experience in effective resource management and working with a large multi-cultural team.
• Experience in real-time system engineering; testing and integration activities, software verification and validation best practices and safety critical techniques.
• Agile mindset, able to take prompt decisions in a challenging environment.
• Ability to analyse data and draw insights to inform decision-making.
• Ability to form and build key stakeholder relationships.
