Job summary

NES FIRCROFT is seeking an experienced power systems engineer to join a global team of electricity experts in Melbourne or Sydney. You will lead grid studies across generation, transmission and distribution projects and collaborate with clients to deliver robust solutions.

The ideal candidate has 5–6+ years in power system analysis, an Electrical Engineering degree, and strong knowledge of PSS/E and PSCAD; Python scripting is a plus.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 5-6+ years’ industry experience in power system analysis in generation.
• Good understanding of PSS/E and PSCAD network simulation software.
• Python scripting as a supporting tool is highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Conduct and coordinate technical studies related to grid connection of renewable energy projects.
• Assist with PSCAD and PSS/E modelling according to AEMO standards.
• Enhance competence in power quality, electromagnetic transients, earthing and protection.
• Help with deliverables, schedules and budgets for client projects and studies.
• Serve as technical lead for consulting engagements within the Power Systems service offering.

Job description

Role Summary:

NES FIRCROFT are searching for an experienced power systems engineer to work with a global team of electricity experts within a leading consultancy, that have been tackling the most intricate problems for some of the most prominent industry stakeholders for over 20 years.

The primary purpose of this role is to carry out projects across the generation, transmission and distribution sectors. The location of this role is in Melbourne or Sydney.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Head of Grid, you will:

• Conduct and coordinate technical studies related to grid connection of renewable energy projects


• Assist with PSCAD and PSS/E modelling according to 5.3.4 AEMO standards


• Enhance personal competence in several specialised technical areas, such as power quality, electromagnetic transients, earthing and protection


• Help with deliverables, schedules and budgets for client projects and studies


• Serve as technical lead for consulting engagements within the Power Systems service offering.

Required Experience:

• Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering


• 5-6+ years’ industry experience in power system analysis in generation


• Full legal working rights in Australia


• Good understanding of PSS/E and PSCAD network simulation software will be highly regarded along with using python scripting as a supporting tool.


• Ability to work to deadlines and exceed client expectations


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
