Mott MacDonald’s Water Environment & Society team in Brisbane has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join the Water team and contribute to the Next Generation for Delivery (NG4D) program with Urban Utilities.

You’ll lead complex water and wastewater design and construction projects, mentor engineers, and help shape best‑value solutions in a fully integrated, high‑performing environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in mechanical engineering.
• CPEng and RPEQ (or in process of obtaining within 6–12 months).
• Broad understanding of wastewater treatment processes, networks, and related infrastructure.
• Proven experience delivering water/wastewater projects, including design and construct.DC experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Leading project progress through weekly design meetings, formal reviews, and milestone workshops (e.g., SID, HAZOP).
• Overseeing development, quality assurance, and finalisation of engineering drawings, design reports, and client deliverables.
• Managing production of specialist reports (Site Access, Tenure, Environmental & Planning).
• Collaborating with delivery partners, suppliers and subcontractors—preparing specifications, coordinating inputs, reviewing submissions.
• Working with a multidisciplinary and multi‑partner team to define, assess, and select best value technical solutions.
• Identifying risks and opportunities, driving mitigation strategies, and maximising project value.
• Managing design budgets, schedules, and change processes including earned value tracking.
• Mentoring and developing junior engineers, fostering a supportive technical environment.
• Building strong relationships with internal and external clients.
• Providing technical input into bid pursuits and contributing to business growth opportunities.
