Job summary

Western Power is seeking a Principal Engineer to provide strategic technical leadership across the transmission network in Perth CBD. The role influences engineering direction, drives network innovation, and ensures reliability and security for Western Australia’s energy systems.

You will set standards and policies guiding operation and access to critical infrastructure, coordinating with generators and major customers while mentoring others.

Qualifications

• Requires a degree in Electrical Engineering and eligibility for Chartered membership with Engineers Australia.
• Requires extensive technical leadership experience across power transmission networks.
• Demonstrates strong knowledge of engineering standards, regulations and transmission network operations.
• Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills; ability to coach and mentor colleagues.
• At least 12+ years of relevant experience in engineering roles within the power sector.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic technical leadership across the transmission network.
• Influence engineering direction, drive network innovation, and ensure reliability and security of energy systems.
• Set standards, policies, and technical criteria for operation and access to critical infrastructure.
• Lead real-time decision making on security, reliability, capacity, and constraints.
• Coordinate with generators, transmission entities, and major customers on engineering matters.
• Oversee commissioning activities and approve operation.
• Manage commercial requirements for non-co-optimised essential system services.
