Job Description

This role is the technical authority for software engineering across SG Fleet globally, setting the standards for how software is designed, built, tested, secured and delivered. Working across Australia, New Zealand and the UK, you’ll drive engineering best practice, champion emerging technologies and AI, lead the Software Engineering Practice Group, and contribute to key architectural decisions.

Job Requirements
  • 10+ years’ software engineering experience as a polyglot engineer with deep, current, hands‑on expertise in .NET/C# and strong experience in React or a similar modern frontend technology, including production delivery in a medium-large commercial environment.
  • Demonstrable experience solving complex technical problems where the solution was adopted as a pattern by other teams.
  • Demonstrable experience leading engineers through influence rather than line authority, including coaching senior engineers and technical leads.
  • Demonstrable experience lifting engineering practice across multiple teams, including standards, code review culture, testing discipline and developer enablement.
  • Working experience with AI-assisted engineering tools (GitHub Copilot or equivalent), including agent‑based workflows, and a considered view on where they add value.
  • Demonstrable expertise in SDLC improvement and refinement, designing and improving software delivery processes with measurable impact on delivery speed and quality.
  • Practical experience with Azure, CI/CD pipelines and modern SDLC practices.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and in writing, with the ability to produce guidance that engineers adopt.
Job Responsibilities
  • Build high-performing engineering teams across Australia, New Zealand and the UK, partnering with Technical Leads to establish and embed engineering best practices.
  • Develop and maintain the engineering competency framework, defining expectations, identifying skill gaps and supporting development pathways.
  • Mentor Software Engineers and Senior Software Engineers through technical coaching, guidance and knowledge sharing.
  • Establish and continuously improve engineering standards across coding, code review, ALM, release management and quality governance.
  • Drive DevOps automation and tooling improvements to enhance delivery efficiency and enable objective measurement of engineering productivity.
  • Advance the use of approved AI across the software development lifecycle, identifying opportunities, driving adoption and building reusable AI capabilities.
  • Contribute to solution architecture, technology research, proofs of concept and design reviews, ensuring approved architectural patterns are applied effectively.
  • Uplift automated testing and secure coding practices across unit, integration, API and end‑to‑end testing.
  • Govern code, dependency and security risk, including static analysis findings, third‑party dependencies and engineering support for security incidents.
  • Lead the Software Engineering Practice Group, setting its direction, priorities and outputs.
Job Benefits
  • Recharge and relax with up to 4 days of wellness days every year
  • We offer industry leading 20 weeks paid parental leave
  • Monetary service milestone awards
