Novus is hiring a Senior Engineering Manager for a true player-coach role in Sydney. You will lead a team of engineers, a QA Lead and an Engineering Team Lead, while staying hands-on in code and architecture across .NET and React.

Reporting to the CTO, you will shape the team’s roadmap, drive AI-assisted engineering practices, and collaborate with Product, Customer Success and Sales to set realistic promises.

Qualifications

• Experience leading engineers in enterprise or scale‑up SaaS.
• Shipped production code as a manager in the last two years.
• Strong commercial C#/.NET and React capabilities.
• Clear communication with engineers and executives.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage engineers, a QA Lead and an Engineering Team Lead with their own reports, owning growth, performance and hiring.
• Coach the Team Lead into full ownership of their area.
• Stay hands-on across the .NET backend and React frontend, stepping in where it unblocks the team.
• Own the team's roadmap commitments and quarterly goals, raise risk early when slipping.
• Lead AI-driven SDLC with agents under guardrails you own; measure impact on cycle time, release frequency and quality.
• Partner with Product, Customer Success and Sales on what gets built and what's realistic to promise.

Senior Engineering Manager | .NET / React

$240k + 10% bonus | Sydney Hybrid | 2 days in office per week

I'm hiring a Senior Engineering Manager for an established, global SaaS business.

This is a true player-coach role. You'll report to the CTO and lead a team of 10, including an Engineering Team Lead and a QA Lead, while staying hands-on in the code.

People leadership comes first here, with technical depth a close second. You'll still design, build and review, but most of your impact will come through the people around you.

The environment includes C#/.NET, React, Angular across the legacy front end, Azure and modern AI-assisted engineering, with coding, review and QA agents already part of everyday work.

You'll be responsible for:

• Leading and managing engineers, a QA Lead and an Engineering Team Lead with their own reports, owning their growth, performance and hiring

• Coaching the Team Lead into full ownership of their area

• Staying hands-on across the .NET backend and React front end, and stepping in wherever it unblocks the team

• Owning the team's roadmap commitments and quarterly goals, and raising risk early and plainly when something's slipping

• Leading the next stage of an AI-driven SDLC, with coding, review and QA agents doing real work under guardrails you own, and measuring what it changes in cycle time, release frequency and quality

• Partnering closely with Product on the how, the why and the when of what gets built, and with Customer Success and Sales on what's realistic to promise

You'll bring:

• Several years leading engineers in enterprise or scale-up SaaS, including managing a lead or manager who had their own reports

• A true player-coach who's shipped production code as a manager in the last two years and can still carry a technical design review

• Strong commercial C#/.NET and React

• Strong, demonstrable experience driving agentic engineering in a team you led (Claude Code, Codex or similar), with results to show for it, not just adoption

• A product mindset: you judge work by what it does for the customer and the business

• Extremely clear communication with engineers and executives alike

• Experience leading people across locations and time zones

• Based in Sydney with full working rights
