Job summary

Talenza is seeking a hands-on Principal Engineer to lead the technical direction of our platforms delivering secure, reliable communications. This permanent role involves 2-3 days on-site in South Brisbane/Gold Coast, Brisbane area, guiding teams from architecture to production while staying close to the code.

You will own architecture across high-availability platforms, drive event-driven and API-first design, and mentor engineers across multiple teams.

Qualifications

• Hands-on Java, Spring Boot and TypeScript experience.
• Delivery of large-scale distributed platforms.
• Knowledge of event-driven and API-first architecture.
• Cloud and platform engineering across containers, CI/CD, IaC.
• Experience designing AI agents and automated workflows.
• Observability, reliability, incident management, disaster recovery.
• Technical leadership across multiple teams while reviewing code and architecture.
• Experience in regulated industries is a plus.

Principal Engineer | Full Stack Java

Opportunity to join one of Australia's leading enterprise organisations. We're seeking a hands-on Principal Engineer to lead the technical direction of the platforms that deliver timely, secure and reliable communications across multiple channels. This is a permanent role with 2-3 days a week on-site, South Brisbane/Gold Coast

The Opportunity
You'll be the senior technical voice across critical high availability platforms, data, decisioning and integrations, guiding teams from architecture through to production. This is very much a player-coach style role, which takes strategic oversight but stays very close to the code, working across multiple teams and stakeholders.

• Strong full stack experience with hands-on Java, Spring Boot and TypeScript
• Proven delivery of large-scale distributed platforms supporting high-volume, business-critical services.
• Deep knowledge of event driven and API first architecture, including streaming, async processing and failure handling.
• Cloud and platform engineering experience across containers, CI/CD, infrastructure as code and automation
• Hands-on experience designing and implementing AI agents and automated workflows in enterprise environments.
• Strong grasp of observability, reliability, incident management and disaster recovery
• Technical leadership across multiple teams while staying hands-on with code reviews and architecture.
• Highly regulated industry experience is very desirable.
