Job summary

Wave International seeks a Principal Electrical Engineer in Perth to lead electrical projects, balancing hands-on design with project management for mining and mineral processing facilities.

You will drive HV/LV design, develop design documentation, mentor engineers, and ensure project success from concept to procurement while upholding high engineering standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (required).
• Extensive experience delivering electrical engineering projects in mining/mineral processing or heavy industrial sectors.
• Experience in engineering consulting environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver electrical engineering projects from concept, design and procurement.
• Design, develop and review HV and LV electrical systems for mining and industrial facilities.
• Produce and oversee electrical design documentation (SLDs, schematics, termination drawings).
• Perform electrical calculations (load flow, fault level, cable sizing, earthing).
• Prepare technical specifications and procurement documentation for electrical equipment.
• Manage budgets, schedules, resources and deliverables.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers and drafters.
• Support site activities including commissioning, testing and inspections.

We are currently seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our growing Perth Engineering team, supporting the increasing demand for critical minerals and battery metals projects.

This role would be suited for an Engineer that can seamlessly balance hands‑on technical design, delivery with project management responsibilities, ensuring successful project outcomes while maintaining the highest engineering and quality standards.

In this role, you willbe responsible for and have the following qualifications and/or skills:

Responsibilities:

• Lead and deliver electrical engineering projects from concept, design and procurement.
• Design, develop and review HV and LV electrical systems for mining, mineral processing and industrial facilities.
• Produce and oversee the development of electrical design documentation, including single line diagrams (SLDs), schematics, termination drawings and detailed design packages.
• Undertake electrical engineering calculations including load flow studies, fault level analysis, cable sizing, equipment sizing, earthing and lightning protection design.
• Prepare technical specifications, scopes of work and procurement documentation for electrical equipment and systems.
• Manage project budgets, schedules, resources and deliverables to ensure successful project outcomes.
• Coordinate and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, designers, drafters, clients and contractors.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to engineers, designers and drafters.
• Support site activities including commissioning, testing, troubleshooting and technical inspections when required.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication and delivery of high-quality engineering solutions.

To be successful in this role you hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and bring extensive experience delivering electrical engineering projects within the mining, mineral processing, or heavy industrial sectors, ideally in an engineering consulting environment.
