About Group Technical Services

Based in Brisbane and working within Evolution’s Group Technical Services function,you’llwork closely with our operations to solve important technical and operational challenges across the business.

You’ll work across a diverse portfolio of mining and processing operations in Australia and Canada, applying advanced analytics and emerging technologies to real operational problems and developing solutions that can be scaled across the Group.

About the Role

The Principal Data Scientist will lead the application of data science, advanced analytics and AI to complex operational and technical problems across Evolution’s operations.

The problems will be varied and grounded in the operation, from mineral processing and recovery, underground mining and equipment productivity through to asset reliability, predictive maintenance and operational optimisation.

You’ll work directly with operational and technical subject matter experts to understand problems, test hypotheses and determine the analytical approach most likely to create value. This could include statistical modelling, machine learning, optimisation, simulation, predictive analytics or emerging AI techniques.

The focus is on applied problem solving and operational outcomes.

A key part of the role will be building the foundations that allow successful solutions to scale. You’ll help establish important operational datasets, data definitions and reusable analytical models, while shaping sound approaches to model development, testing, validation and deployment. As a principal, you’ll also help pioneer the practical use of AI and emerging analytical techniques to accelerate model development and solve new classes of operational problems across the business.

About You

You’re an experienced data scientist who enjoys solving difficult, real-world problems and seeing your work applied in an operational environment.

You combine strong technical capability with curiosity and structured problem solving. You’re comfortable working with engineers, technical specialists and operational teams to understand how a system works, challenge assumptions and translate complex analysis into practical decisions and measurable outcomes.

You Most Likely Have

• Significant experience applying data science, statistics, machine learning or advanced analytics to operational problems, ideally in mining, resources or another asset-intensive industry.
• Strong capability across multiple analytical and programming languages such as Python, R and SQL.
• Experience connecting,cleaningand structuring complex operational datasets from systems such as production accounting, metallurgical models, process historians, maintenancesystemsand equipment data sources.
• Demonstrated experience developing andvalidatingpredictive, diagnostic, optimisation or statistical models that support operational decision-making.
• Strong structured problem-solving and stakeholder engagement capability, with experience working directly with engineers, technicalspecialistsand operational teams.
• Experience developing analytical solutions that are repeatable,scalableand maintainable, with an understanding of model validation, dataqualityand model lifecycle practices.
• A relevant tertiary qualification in data science, mathematics, statistics, engineering, computerscienceor another quantitative discipline is expected.
• Experience in mining operations, mineral processing, metallurgy, maintenance or reliability would be highly regarded, as would experience applying AI, Generative AI, optimisation or simulation to industrial problems.
