Job summary

wiqLABS in Australia seeks a Principal Data Scientist to shape enterprise AI strategy on Google Cloud. You’ll spend majority coding production-grade AI workflows, mentor a squad of data scientists, and translate business needs into high-impact roadmaps that drive commercial performance.

You’ll lead multi-agent AI system design, establish evaluation and observability standards, stay ahead of AI developments, and communicate ROI and risks to senior stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in statistics, data science, mathematics, computer science or related fields, or equivalent experience; postgraduate study is highly regarded.
• Advanced Python and SQL with experience handling large, disparate datasets.
• Proven ability to influence in complex, multi‑stakeholder environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and deployment of resilient, multi‑agent AI workflows and pipelines on Google Cloud.
• Establish standards for model evaluation, observability, and responsible AI practices.
• Stay abreast of developments across Google, Anthropic, and open-source models to integrate high‑impact capabilities.
• Spend over half your time writing production‑grade code, focusing on prompt design, tool use, and cost control.
• Mentor a team of data scientists to build a culture of technical rigor and learning.
• Guide the team through complex architectural decisions while fostering autonomy and ownership.
• Partner with commercial leaders to translate business requirements into ambitious strategic roadmaps.
• Communicate ROI, security considerations, and technical trade-offs to executive stakeholders.
