Job summary

Medibank is seeking a Principal Engineer, AI to shape how AI is built, scaled and embedded across the organisation. You’ll bridge enterprise AI strategy with production software delivery, guiding architecture and standards for scalable, secure AI initiatives.

You’ll lead engineering teams, influence multiple stakeholders, and accelerate adoption of AI across Medibank with a strong focus on cloud-native delivery and cost efficiency.

Qualifications

• Extensive software development experience across large-scale systems.
• Experience leading engineering teams and shaping technical direction.
• Hands-on track record integrating AI into production software.
• Proficient in CI/CD, automated testing, and DevOps in cloud environments.
• Experience with cloud platforms and AI services, especially AWS.
• Strong understanding of microservices, APIs and modern architectures.
• Ability to influence multiple teams and stakeholders.
• Excellent communication with both technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Shape the technical vision for embedding AI into Medibank's platforms.
• Translate AI strategy into actionable roadmaps and scalable solutions.
• Provide architectural guidance across AI-enabled projects.
• Develop engineering standards and patterns for AI delivery.
• Embed modern software practices including CI/CD and secure-by-design delivery.
• Collaborate with security, risk and delivery teams to ensure governance.
• Coach and mentor engineers and tech leaders across squads.
• Advise on cloud architecture, model integration and cost efficiency.
