Job summary

Denholm Rees & O'Donnell Ltd, a Merseyside subcontract engineering specialist, is seeking a precision cylindrical grinder for its Liverpool site. You will grind shafts up to 4 m from precision drawings on a manual cylindrical grinder, using steels including stainless and alloy grades.

Essential requirements include NVQ 3 or equivalent, 2 years’ experience, ability to read drawings, ISO 9001:2015 knowledge, and strong planning, communication and attention to detail.

Qualifications

• NVQ 3 or equivalent required or recognized industrial qualification.
• 2+ years in grinding precision pump shafts or similar components.
• Ability to read and work from detailed engineering drawings.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 quality systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate from precision drawings to rough and finish grind shafts up to 4 m in length.
• Work with steel, stainless steel and alloy grades on a manual cylindrical grinder.
• Maintain accurate records and comply with ISO 9001:2015 procedures.
• Ensure quality and precision of finished components.

Job description

Eligibility:

Right to work in the UK; UK resident

Salary:

£18.00 – £19.25/hr (Approx. £36.5k-£39k)

Potential Earnings:

With O/T, up to £50k-£60k

Hours:

39 hrs/week + overtime @ x 1.5

Shift:

Single Days: Mon-Thurs 7.30-16.30, Fri 7.30-12.30

Position

We have an exciting opportunity for a precision cylindrical grinder to join our Precision Pump Shaft Cell at our Liverpool site. The role will involve working from precision drawings to rough and finish grind various types of shafts up to 4m in length from semi finish turned shafts of various grades of steel, stainless steel, and alloy steels on manual cylindrical grinder.

Requirements

Essential candidate requirements:

• NVQ 3 or equivalent
• Previous experience in using steadies and grinding precision pump shafts up to 4.2m in length.
• Ability to work from detailed engineering drawings
• Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 Quality Systems
• Experience machining exotic metals (e.g., super duplex, duplex, 718, x750, Hastelloy, Monel)
• Previous experience in a similar role (2yrs min)
• Strong planning and organizing skills
• Effective communication with peers and management
• Attention to detail

Preferred experience but not essential requirements:

• Previous experience in finish grinding multi-stage pump shafts.
• Other skills within a subcontract machine shop
• Production of valve and pump components
• Serving the Nuclear, Defence, oil, gas, fluid, and power generation sectors
• Proficient in Office 365 and ERP Systems
