The successful candidate will operate various conventional machines, interpret engineering drawings, and maintain tight tolerances with meticulous quality. Overtime and regular hours are available in a supportive team setting.

Qualifications

• Proven experience operating gear cutting, gear grinding, and shaping machines.
• Recent experience in a heavy industrial or engineering workshop environment.
• Strong manual machining background, including manual lathes and milling machines.
• Experience with manual slotting and shaping machines.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical schematics.

Responsibilities

• Operating gear cutting, gear grinding, and shaping machines.
• Operating manual lathes, milling machines, slotting machines, and other conventional machining equipment.
• Manufacturing precision components from steel, bronze, nylon, and other materials.
• Setting up machinery, selecting tooling, and adjusting machine parameters.
• Interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and job instructions.
• Measuring and inspecting components to ensure compliance with tight tolerances.
• Using precision measuring instruments and calibration equipment.
• Operating overhead cranes to load and unload materials and components.
• Maintaining a safe, organised, and productive work environment.

About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Manual Machinist with strong experience in gear cutting, gear grinding, and shaping machinery. This position will see you working within a busy engineering workshop manufacturing and repairing precision components to exact specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Operating gear cutting, gear grinding, and shaping machines.
• Operating manual lathes, milling machines, slotting machines, and other conventional machining equipment.
• Manufacturing precision components from steel, bronze, nylon, and other materials.
• Setting up machinery, selecting tooling, and adjusting machine parameters.
• Interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and job instructions.

Hours

Monday to Thursday: 7:30am - 4:00pm
Friday: 7:00am - 1:00pm

Overtime available based on workload requirements.

Essential Requirements

• Proven experience operating gear cutting, gear grinding, and shaping machines.
• Recent experience in a heavy industrial or engineering workshop environment.
• Strong manual machining background, including manual lathes and milling machines.
• Experience with manual slotting and shaping machines.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical schematics.
• Sound knowledge of machine setup, tooling selection, speeds, feeds, and machining processes.
• Experience producing precision components to tight tolerances.
• Proficiency in the use of micrometers, verniers, bore gauges, and other precision measuring equipment.
• High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Strong safety focus and ability to work effectively within a team.
• Current National Police Check or willingness to obtain one.

Highly Regarded

• Cylindrical grinding and bore grinding experience.
• CNC machining experience.
• Overhead crane licence and experience.
