Beacon Legal in Sydney is seeking an Operations Manager to oversee risk, compliance, governance and people operations within a small not-for-profit legal organisation. You will manage external finance and IT providers, support reporting and grant applications, and develop robust policies and processes.
Reporting to the Executive Director, you will take ownership across operations, adapt to changing needs, and help the team work efficiently in a flexible hybrid environment with occasional CBD
Sydney CBD | $130k–$140k + Super | Highly Flexible Hybrid Working | Contract to May 2027 (View to extend).
This growing not-for-profit legal organisation provides specialist legal representation to individuals involved in environmental and climate-related matters.
Still relatively early in its growth, the organisation has built a team of approximately 10 people and is continuing to develop its systems, policies and operational structure.
It's a small, highly committed team where you'll have the opportunity to make a tangible impact on how the organisation operates.
This is a broad Operations Manager position reporting to the Executive Director and taking responsibility for the day-to-day operational running of the organisation.
You'll oversee risk, compliance and governance, manage external finance and IT providers, support people operations and help ensure the wider team has the systems and support it needs.
This is not an EA or secretarial position. They're looking for someone who can take ownership, solve problems independently and comfortably move between different areas of the organisation.
Manage risk, compliance and governance requirements
Oversee external finance, bookkeeping, IT and other suppliers
Support people operations, including onboarding and internal processes
Assist with reporting, grant applications and organisational administration
Develop and improve policies, systems and operational processes
Experience across operations, risk, compliance, governance or people operations
Comfortable working in a broad, hands-on generalist position
Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
Ability to work independently and take ownership without needing significant direction
Experience within legal, professional services or not-for-profit environments would be advantageous but isn't essential
This will suit someone who enjoys working in a small organisation where things move quickly and you're trusted to get on with the job.
The organisation is still developing, so you'll need to be adaptable and comfortable improving processes rather than simply inheriting established systems.
An interest in social justice and alignment with the organisation's work will also be important.
$130,000 + Super, with flexibility up to approximately $140,000 + Super for an exceptional candidate
Highly flexible hybrid working, with only occasional Sydney CBD office attendance required
Flexible working hours – complete your seven-hour working day between 7am and 7pm
Broad role with ownership across operations, governance, risk and people
Work directly with the Executive Director and senior decision-makers
Opportunity to shape systems and processes within a growing organisation
Join a small, purpose-led team where your work has a visible impact
Initial contract through to March 2027, with potential for extension or an ongoing opportunity
