Job summary

The Department of Justice and Community Safety VIC – Little River VIC is seeking a Practice Lead to steer a multi-disciplinary team of Behaviour Support Specialists at Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct. The role focuses on delivering psychosocial programs to support rehabilitation and the management of complex behaviours in custody and reintegration into the community.

Qualifications

• Experience in leading a multi-disciplinary team to deliver interventions and services to complex client groups.
• Specialist expertise in working with young people with multiple and complex needs, including trauma, substance use and mental health issues.
• Working with Children Check is required and must be maintained for the period of employment.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of Behaviour Support Specialists at Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct.
• Oversee the delivery of evidence-based psychosocial programs to support rehabilitation of young people in custody.
• Develop individualised strategies and interventions responsive to youths’ needs to reduce behaviours of concern.
• Provide high-quality supervision and professional development to staff.
• Lead capacity building of unit staff to manage and intervene with highly complex behaviours.
• Ensure functional behavioural assessments include evidence-based strategies and consider cultural/family support needs.
• Coordinate with custody, community, and external stakeholders on behaviour management and rehabilitation.
• Contribute to development of operating manuals, procedures and staff training.
