Job summary

SM Grid Partners (SMGP) is seeking a power systems engineer to join our specialist team in Melbourne. You will lead power system studies focusing on battery storage, solar farms, wind farms and data centre grid connections, delivering practical solutions with a collaborative advisory approach.

You hold a relevant engineering degree with experience in the NEM or WEM, strong power system fundamentals, and hands-on modelling with PSCAD, PSSE or PowerFactory.

About the role

Our team conducts power system studies and provides technical advisory, deep regulatory expertise and pragmatic engineering solutions, bringing a collaborative and partnership-driven approach to every project.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and perform power system studies including battery energy storage systems, solar farms, wind farms and data centre grid connection projects
• Work closely with developers and OEMs as a trusted technical advisor and delivery partner
• Translate complex technical analyses into practical, fit-for-purpose engineering solutions
• Develop, review, and present high-quality technical reports and engineering documentation

About you

• A relevant engineering degree, with experience in the NEM or WEM
• A sound understanding of power system fundamentals and the operation of electricity networks
• Experience with power system modelling tools such as PSCAD, PSSE or PowerFactory
• A good understanding of relevant Australian grid code, guidelines and practices
• A pragmatic, collaborative approach and strong communication skills
• Full working rights in Australia
