Job summary

Smarter Power Solutions Pty Ltd in Melbourne, VIC seeks a senior power systems engineer with proven experience in supporting grid connection applications in the NEM. You will tackle a broad range of technical challenges and work with a team of experts to drive projects forward.

Responsibilities include grid connection studies, power system modelling with PSSE, PSCAD and PowerFactory, and preparing NSPs Grid Connection documents while coordinating with NSPs/AEMO and project stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or higher degree in Power Systems Engineering.
• Proven experience with GPS studies and grid connection applications in the NEM.
• Strong knowledge of National Electricity Rules and AEMO R1/R2 processes.
• Proficient in Python; FORTRAN knowledge is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to work independently and with remote teams.

Responsibilities

• Conduct grid connection studies and support power system modelling for utility-scale solar, wind, and energy storage projects.
• Collaborate with project developers, NSPs, investors, consultants, NSPs and AEMO to clarify project requirements and resolve modelling issues.
• Perform power system modelling (Dynamic and Steady-State) using PSSE, PSCAD, PowerFactory.
• Prepare NSPs Grid Connection application documents and technical reports; interface with clients and NSPs/AEMO for information gathering.

Role

• Undertaking grid connection studies and supporting power system modelling team for utility scale solar, wind and energy storage projects.
• Working closely with project developers, investors, consultants, NSPs and AEMO to understand specific project requirements and resolve any product related modelling or functional issues.
• Performing power system modelling, Dynamic and Steady-State Analysis using PSSE, PSCAD, PowerFactory.
• Preparation of NSPs Grid Connection application documents and technical reports, interface with clients and NSPs/AEMO for information gathering and technical discussions.

Requirements

• Proven experience on GPS studies and record of grid connection applications in the NEM.
• Detailed knowledge of National Electricity Rules, GPS study requirements, AEMO R1 and R2 process for grid connected generators, renewable energy power plant design and application
• Proficient in PSS®E, PSCAD.

Experience with PowerFactory is nice to have.

• Proficient in Python coding language; knowledge of FORTRAN is nice to have.
• Education: Bachelor or higher Degree in Power Systems Engineering.
• Collaborative, solutions-oriented approach, and strong communication skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as with remote teams in our other offices locally and globally.
• Strong ability to work as part of a team in problem solving.
• Possessing excellent written and verbal communication skills, having the ability to adapt quickly and work to tight deadlines.
