Job summary

CSIRO is recruiting for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Zoonotic Pathogens & Advanced Cell Models in Geelong, VIC. The role involves developing advanced tissue platforms and applying virology, molecular biology and imaging within high‑containment facilities.

You will work with national and international partners to advance disease research and medical countermeasures. The successful candidate will design experiments, publish results and contribute to grant applications, with mentorship of students

Qualifications

• PhD in virology, cell biology or related field.
• Experience in cell biology and advanced cell or tissue culture systems.
• Strong written and oral communication and conference presentation skills.
• Publication record in peer‑reviewed journals or patents.
• Creativity and willingness to apply novel ideas in investigations.

Responsibilities

• Work in a microbiologically secure laboratory (PC2–PC4) as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Develop and optimise precision-cut tissue explant models to study host–pathogen interactions.
• Conduct virological, molecular and cellular analyses and interpret complex data.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to publications and grants.
• Support supervision and mentoring of students and early-career researchers.
• Maintain high biosafety and lab practice standards and comply with ethics.
