Job summary

CSIRO’s Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP) in Geelong requires a Laboratory Diagnostic Virologist to join a high-containment team. You will perform quality-assured diagnostic testing for a broad range of viral pathogens affecting livestock and animals, supporting national biosecurity and diagnostic innovation within an accredited lab.

You will isolate, detect and characterise viral pathogens, interpret results, and contribute to emergency animal disease preparedness while working

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree with honours or equivalent relevant work experience in Biological Sciences or related discipline.
• Experience conducting and coordinating laboratory-based experiments or tests with ability to plan and schedule laboratory work.
• Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve complex problems in a timely and technically sound manner.
• Experience working both independently and in a project team with strong collaboration.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and a commitment to health, safety and wellbeing.

Responsibilities

• Support quality-assured diagnostic testing services (NATA/ISO 17025) for a broad range of viral pathogens.
• Contribute to quality assurance, including reporting, test authorisation and record-keeping.
• Undertake diagnostic and innocuity testing under technical direction, prioritising workload.
• Collaborate with team leads, veterinarians and scientists to deliver testing activities.
• Undertake test development, evaluation and validation work under technical direction.
