Job summary

Northern Midlands Council in Tasmania is seeking reliable Pool Lifeguards for Cressy, Campbell Town and Ross. In this casual role, you will ensure safety and enjoyment of visitors during open dates from December to March, monitor the pool area, assist patrons, and maintain water quality records.

No prior lifeguard experience is required as training will be provided to obtain the Pool Lifeguard Qualification (RLSA).

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years old at 28 November 2026.
• Must hold, or be able to obtain, a Tasmanian Working With Vulnerable People clearance.
• Strong swimming skills and the ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety and following procedures.
• Effective communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the role and complete Pool Lifeguard training.

As part of our community services for families and children in the area, the council operates 3 aquatic centres in the Northern midlands, in Cressy, Campbell Town, and Ross communities. Applicants can choose to apply for work only at specific centres, or at all locations.

About The Role

Northern Midlands Council is seeking reliable and safety-conscious Pool Lifeguards to join our team in Cressy, Campbell Town, and Ross in Tasmania. In this casual role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and enjoyment of visitors to our local aquatic facilities during our open dates from December to March. What You'll Be Doing

• Actively monitor the pool area and promptly respond to any incidents or emergencies
• Provide excellent customer service and assist pool patrons with any queries or concerns
• Perform regular pool tests and maintain accurate records of water quality and chemical levels
• Assist with the general cleaning tasks at the pool facility
• Adhere to all relevant health and safety policies and procedures

Daily shifts are from 11am to 7pm during school holidays, 3pm to 6pm on weekdays during school term, and 12.45pm to 6pm on weekends during school term. We don't operate the pools in poor weather so the requirements may vary.

About You

We are seeking responsible and enthusiastic people who can provide excellent customer service, work well in a team and maintain a strong focus on safety. No previous lifeguard experience is required - Council will provide training and support to successful applicants to obtain the necessary qualifications. Council will provide training in the RLSA Pool Lifeguard Qualification at no expense to successful applicants.

Selection Criteria (Essential)

• Must be 18 years old at 28 November 2026
• Must hold, or be able to obtain, a Tasmanian Working With Vulnerable People clearance
• Strong swimming skills and the ability to respond quickly in emergency situations
• Demonstrated commitment to safety and following procedures
• Effective communication and customer service skills
• Ability to remain attentive, exercise sound judgement and respond appropriately to changing situations
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Demonstrated commitment to child safety and safeguarding
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the role and successfully complete Pool Lifeguard training

Selection Criteria (Desirable)

• Previous experience in customer service, hospitality, retail, recreation, sport, volunteering or community activities
• Experience working with children, young people or community groups
• Current First Aid, CPR and/or Pool Lifeguard qualifications
• Participation in swimming, sport, surf lifesaving or other activities demonstrating teamwork, reliability and commitment

This is a casual role offered at the hourly rate of $41.20 per hour, plus 14% SGC. This rate is inclusive of a casual loading of 25%.
