Job summary

YMCA Victoria in Williamstown seeks a casual Lifeguard to provide a safe swimming environment for centre visitors. You will be patient, vigilant and friendly while guiding patrons and enforcing rules around the pools.

The role requires a Lifeguard certificate (or willingness to obtain) plus CPR and First Aid; previous aquatics experience is valued. Casual hours with up to $34.96 per hour + super, roster flexibility, and access to YMCA facilities statewide.

Qualifications

• Aquatic Pool Lifeguard Certificate required or willingness to obtain.
• CPR and First Aid certifications must be current.
• Strong safety awareness and customer-service focus.

Responsibilities

• Supervise an active aquatic space to maintain a safe environment.
• Observe pools and patrons to anticipate and respond to issues.
• Enforce facility rules and educate users on safe practices.
• Take preventative action to ensure safety of patrons and equipment.

About the Centre

The Boroondara Sports Complex (BSC) is a large sports centre, housing three outdoor pools include a heated 50 metre lap pool, a shaded program pool, and a dive pool with a five metre dive tower and one and three metre springboards. BSC is a beautiful centre, located conveniently within walking distance from public transport, with access to childcare and café at a discounted rate. All staff at The Y receive complimentary full membership to any YMCA within Victoria.

About the Role

As a Lifeguard at BSC, you'll help provide a safe swimming environment for all centre visitors. You'll be patient, focused and friendly to keep pool-users informed and safe. Duties of the role include:

• Supervising a large aquatic space while pro-actively ensuring a safe environment in and around the pool area


• Maintaining concentrated observation of pools and patrons to anticipate and respond to problems


• Ensuring facility rules are being obeyed whilst at the same time educating facility users about safe aquatic practices


• Carrying out intervention and preventative action to ensure the safety and wellbeing of patrons, the facility and equipment

This is a casual position and the hourly rate up to $34.96 + Super.

About You

We are seeking motivated, organised and pro-active Lifeguards to come and join the team. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, a positive attitude and a commitment to the safety and wellbeing of children, young people and all facility users. Other required qualities are:

• Ability to make decisions while under pressure


• Being able to manage conflicts with patrons and users


• Ability to stay alert and vigilant in a repetitive work environment


• Ability to multitask


• Providing excellent customer service for all members and guests


• Experience in the Aquatics and Leisure industry will be highly regarded

Essential Qualifications

• Aquatic Pool Lifeguard Certificate (or willingness to obtain)


• HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation


• HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
