Job summary

YMCA Victoria at the Cobden Outdoor Pool is seeking a Lifeguard to help provide a safe swimming environment for all visitors. You’ll be patient, focused and friendly to keep pool-users informed and safe.

Duties include supervising the pool, maintaining observation, and educating users on water safety. This casual position offers an hourly rate up to $34.96 plus super, with flexible rostering and access to YMCA facilities across the state.

Qualifications

• Lifeguard certification for swimming pool environments.
• Current CPR and First Aid certifications or willingness to obtain.
• Commitment to safety and wellbeing of all users.

Responsibilities

• Supervising a large aquatic space and ensuring safety around the pool.
• Maintaining constant observation to anticipate and respond to issues.
• Educating users about safe aquatic practices and enforcing rules.
• Carrying out intervention and preventative actions for patron safety.

About the Centre

Corangamite Shire operates six outdoor swimming pools - Camperdown, Cobden, Lismore, Skipton, Terang and Timboon. Whether it's a dip to cool off, a splash for fun, learning to swim or lap swimming, users will not be disappointed with the range of activities and programs at each of the pools.

About the Role

As a Lifeguard at Cobden Outdoor Pool, you’ll help provide a safe swimming environment for all centre visitors. You’ll be patient, focused and friendly to keep pool-users informed and safe. Duties of the role include:

• Supervising a large aquatic space while pro-actively ensuring a safe environment in and around the pool area
• Maintaining concentrated observation of pools and patrons to anticipate and respond to problems
• Ensuring facility rules are being obeyed whilst at the same time educating facility users about safe aquatic practices
• Carrying out intervention and preventative action to ensure the safety and wellbeing of patrons, the facility and equipment

This is a casual position with an hourly rate up to $34.96 + Super.

About You

We are seeking motivated, organised and pro-active team members to come and join the team. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, a positive attitude and a commitment to the safety and wellbeing of children, young people and all facility users. Other required qualities are:

• Ability to make decisions while under pressure
• Being able to manage conflicts with patrons and users
• Ability to stay alert and vigilant in a repetitive work environment
• Ability to multitask
• Providing excellent customer service for all members and guests
• Experience in the Aquatics and Leisure industry will be highly regarded

Essential Qualifications

• Aquatic Pool Lifeguard Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
• HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
• HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
