Job summary

CommBank is seeking a Data Protection Platform Engineer to manage, optimize, and scale its enterprise backup and recovery infrastructure across hybrid environments. You will administer a Commvault environment, monitor health and performance, and lead root-cause analysis of failures while mentoring junior engineers.

You will apply expert knowledge of Commvault, DataDomain, Networker, and related tools, plus scripting and automation with Python, PowerShell, Ansible, and Terraform.

Qualifications

• Expert-level hands-on experience with Commvault, DataDomain, Networker, CommServe, Media Agents and client configurations.
• Strong understanding of backup policies, deduplication, catalogue management, and storage targets.
• Scripting and automation experience (Python, PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform).
• Familiarity with monitoring dashboards (Grafana, Prometheus).
• Experience as Platform Engineer or similar role in cloud environments (AWS, VMware).
• Knowledge across broad tech areas (HSM, AD, CyberArk, AI Ops) valued.

Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain a Commvault backup and recovery environment across hybrid infrastructure.
• Monitor system health, job performance, and storage utilization proactively.
• Lead root cause analysis and resolution of backup failures, restore issues, and performance bottlenecks.
• Provide support and mentor junior engineers.
• Ensure adherence to data retention and protection policies.
• Maintain detailed documentation for backup configurations, SOPs, and DR plans.
• Design and test disaster recovery strategies.
• Risk Mindset and ability to pro-actively mitigate risks.
• Automate routine backup tasks using scripting tools (Python, PowerShell, Ansible).
• Participate in capacity planning and architecture reviews.
