Job summary

Open Universities Australia (OUA) is hiring a Platform Engineer to simplify engineering and accelerate delivery of digital products. You’ll build platform services, tooling and automation for product engineers, maintain AWS infrastructure, and explore AI-assisted development to improve workflows.

You’ll own meaningful work from problem understanding to delivery, collaborating with product engineers to remove bottlenecks and enable self-service capabilities.

Qualifications

• Practical software engineering experience – built, tested, deployed and maintained software services.
• DevOps mindset with ownership, automation and fast feedback.
• Hands-on AWS experience – compute, storage, networking, identity and observability.
• Strong networking fundamentals and security-minded engineering.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain platform services, APIs, developer tooling and automation.
• Collaborate with product engineers to understand needs, remove bottlenecks and simplify services.
• Develop and maintain AWS infrastructure under code with security and reliability in mind.
• Improve CI, testing, deployment and observability workflows.
• Troubleshoot across application, infrastructure and networking layers; contribute to incident response.
• Embed security into everyday engineering practices including access controls and secrets management.
• Turn repetitive operational work into reusable tools, docs and self-service capabilities.
• Explore new AWS features, AI tools and coding agents to improve workflows.
• Understand cloud costs and identify opportunities to reduce spend without compromising reliability.
