Job summary

Select Aust Sydney is seeking a Plant Operator - Asphalt Paving to join our busy crew in Cairns. You’ll drive pavers, rollers and skid steers, while also performing hands-on tasks with the team and ensuring quality through monitoring spread rates and texture.

The role requires a current driver’s licence and proven asphalt paving experience, with tickets preferred for loaders, forklift, Bobcat, and paver operation.

Qualifications

• Proven background in asphalt paving operations and machinery use.

Responsibilities

• Operate paving machinery: pavers, rollers, and skid steers.
• Assist with manual labour: raking, shovelling, sweeping, truck spotting.
• Monitor asphalt spread rates, depth and surface texture for quality.
• Perform pre-start checks, site cleanup and general maintenance.

Job Description

Plant Operator - Asphalt Paving Are you an experienced asphalt worker who knows their way around paving machinery? We're looking for a skilled Plant Operator to join a hard-working, busy asphalt crew.

If you enjoy a mix of operating heavy machinery and getting hands-on with the team, this is the role for you. What you'll be doing: Operating machinery: Driving pavers, steel/multi-rollers, and skid steers (bobcats).

Hands-on teamwork: Pitching in with manual labour like raking, shovelling, sweeping, and spotting trucks. Quality control: Monitoring asphalt spread rates, depth, and surface texture. Daily maintenance: Handling pre-starts, clean-downs, and site housekeeping.

What you need (Experience & Tickets): Current Driver's Licence (Mandatory). Industry Experience: Proven background in asphalt paving operations.

Plant Tickets/VOCs: Competency to safely operate paving equipment. Existing tickets for a Front-End Loader, Forklift, Bobcat (Skid Steer), or an Asphalt Paver (specifically the unit RIICBS305E - Conduct Asphalt Paver Operation) are strongly preferred Physical Fitness: Happy to jump out of the cab for manual labour, lift up to 25kg, and work in hot, outdoor environments.
