What You'll Be Doing
  • Performing preventative maintenance, scheduled servicing, mechanical repairs and overhauls across a diverse range of hire equipment.

  • Diagnosing mechanical faults and troubleshooting diesel engines, mechanical components and hydraulic systems.

  • Servicing and maintaining plant equipment, scissor lifts, access equipment, generators and other hire machinery.

  • Working predominantly with diesel engines, with some petrol-powered equipment.

  • Identifying and repairing hydraulic faults, ensuring equipment operates safely and efficiently.

  • Conducting equipment safety inspections and compliance checks in line with manufacturer requirements.

  • Following maintenance procedures and ensuring equipment is safe, reliable and ready for hire.

  • Recording service and repair information accurately using the company's maintenance management system.

  • Assisting with spare parts identification, stock control and ordering where required.

  • Working collaboratively with the Leading Hand and wider workshop team to manage maintenance priorities and minimise equipment downtime.

  • Maintaining a clean, organised and safe workshop in accordance with workplace health and safety requirements.

This role offers plenty of variety. You'll need to be comfortable moving between different machines, engines and mechanical systems rather than working on the same type of equipment every day.

What We're Looking For

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A relevant mechanical trade qualification, such as Plant Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic or Mechanical Fitter.

  • Demonstrated experience in mechanical servicing, preventative maintenance, fault-finding and repairs.

  • Strong diesel engine experience, as the work is predominantly diesel-focused.

  • Essential experience working with hydraulic systems.

  • The ability to work across different types of machinery, plant equipment and mechanical systems.

  • A sound understanding of workplace health and safety procedures and safe maintenance practices.

  • The ability to prioritise work, troubleshoot problems and complete tasks within required timeframes.

  • Good communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Your own tools, with a tool allowance provided.

Light Vehicle Mechanics with at least five years of experience and some exposure to trucks or heavy vehicles may also be considered, provided they have the relevant transferable mechanical and hydraulic experience.

The following will be highly regarded:

  • Previous experience working for an equipment hire or rental company.

  • Experience with pneumatic systems.

  • Welding, fabrication or boilermaking experience.

  • A current MR or HR driver's licence, forklift licence or EWP ticket.

Candidates without these additional licences may still be considered, with the employer willing to support the successful candidate in obtaining relevant tickets within their first year.

What's on Offer?
  • Competitive hourly rates of $40-$45 + 12% super, with up to $50 per hour available for highly experienced candidates.

  • Permanent, full-time employment with an established Australian equipment hire business.

  • Consistent Monday-to-Friday day shifts, with two available start and finish time options.

  • Overtime and applicable penalty rates.

  • Tool allowance, with your own tools required.

  • Personal protective equipment provided.

  • Initial buddy training over the first two to four weeks.

  • Ongoing training and career development opportunities.

  • Employee discounts, additional purchased leave and novated leasing options.

  • The opportunity to work across a varied range of plant, machinery and hire equipment.

  • A supportive workshop team with an experienced Leading Hand and technicians.

Pre-Employment Requirements

The successful applicant will be required to provide evidence of Australian working rights, relevant trade qualifications and two professional references.

Candidates progressing through the recruitment process will also be required to complete a pre-employment medical, drug and alcohol screening and police check. Ongoing drug and alcohol testing may also apply in accordance with company requirements.
