Job summary

Greater Shepparton City Council invites applications for a Compliance Officer within the Building, Planning and Compliance Department. The role focuses on administering and enforcing the planning scheme, Building Act provisions, and local laws to ensure permits compliance.

The position is full time, temporary to 29 January 2027, with a starting salary of $80,385.24 per annum. A six month qualifying period applies, and applications close on 13 November 2026.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Planning, Building Law or Local Government and/or related experience in a compliance or enforcement role.
• Demonstrated understanding of relevant Acts, Regulations and Local Laws including the Building Act 1993, Building Regulation 2018, Planning and Environment Act 1987, Local Government Act 2020 and Greater Shepparton Local Law No 1 – Community Living 2018.
• High level customer service, communication and interpersonal skills and ability to facilitate effective outcomes with internal and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to undertake enforcement activities including legal proceedings VCAT and Magistrates Court.

Responsibilities

• Effectively and efficiently administering, investigating and enforcing the provisions of the Greater Shepparton Planning Scheme, the Building Act 1993, the Building Regulation 2018, the Planning and Environment Act 1987, the Local Government Act 1989, Greater Shepparton Local Law No 1 - Community Living 2018 and related Acts and Regulations and ensure compliance with building, planning and local law permits.
