Job summary

BMD Group is seeking a skilled Planner for our Wentworth Point office to drive the development and maintenance of project programmes for major NSW infrastructure. You will collaborate with Project Directors, operations and regional planning to ensure tender success and project delivery.

The role suits an experienced planner with strong Transport for NSW exposure and a broad mix of water, renewables and civil infrastructure projects. You will influence outcomes from tender to completion.

Qualifications

• 7+ years planning/scheduling experience in civil construction.
• On-site construction experience with strong planning background.
• Proficiency with Primavera P6 and MS Project; ability to develop complex programs.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic programming guidance to tender, project and leadership teams.
• Review tender docs to identify scope, contract requirements and program impacts.
• Develop robust, optimized construction programs for tenders and live projects.
• Prepare fully resourced baseline programs for budgeting and forecasting.
• Contribute to post-tender negotiations and client presentations.
• Monitor progress, report milestones, KPIs and earned value.
• Identify risks and opportunities and advise mitigation.
• Support contractual claims and extensions of time.
• Mentor junior planners and share planning best practices.
• Stay updated with planning tools and industry standards.

About the Role

As a Planner with BMD Constructions, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the successful delivery of major infrastructure projects across New South Wales. Based from our Wentworth Point office, you will work closely with Project Directors, operational teams, and the Regional Planning Manager to develop and maintain high-quality project programmes that drive successful tender outcomes and project execution.

This role is ideally suited to an experienced planner with a strong background in Transport for NSW projects, coupled with broader exposure to sectors such as water, renewables, defence, and other major civil infrastructure projects. You'll be a strategic thinker who enjoys collaborating with diverse stakeholders and influencing project success from tender through to completion.

What You’ll Do

• Provide strategic and practical programming advice to tender, project, and leadership teams.
• Review tender documentation, identifying scope, contract requirements, and program impacts.
• Develop robust, optimised construction programs for tenders and live projects using multiple software platforms.
• Prepare fully resourced and costed baseline programs that support project budgeting and forecasting.
• Contribute to post-tender negotiations, client presentations, and project start-up processes.
• Monitor and update project progress, reporting against milestones, KPIs, and earned value metrics.
• Proactively identify risks, opportunities, and critical path movements, advising on mitigation strategies.
• Support the preparation of contractual claims, extensions of time, and program-based submissions.
• Mentor and guide junior planners, contributing to capability development within the team.
• Keep up to date with emerging planning tools, software, and industry best practice.

Skills & Experience

• Minimum 7+ years’ experience in planning/scheduling within civil construction environments.
• Strong on-site experience with comprehensive construction methodology knowledge.
• Proven capability to develop, analyse, and maintain complex construction programs.
• Advanced skills using a range of planning software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project).
• Solid understanding of contract management, delay analysis, and program-based claims.
• Ability to effectively manage planning responsibilities across multiple concurrent projects.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and presentation skills.
• Experience in water/wastewater treatment projects (advantageous).
• Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or related discipline preferred, though not essential.
