Job summary

Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking an experienced Allied Health Assistant to support the Physiotherapy Department on a full-time, maximum-term basis for maternity leave coverage until October 2027. The role supports a range of clinical areas and works under the delegation of physiotherapists.

The successful candidate will join a team delivering patient-centred care across medical, surgical, rehabilitation, ICU, maternity and outpatient services.

Qualifications

• Experience in a hospital setting preferred.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills with patients, families and multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to work autonomously within a defined scope of practice and follow delegated instructions.
• Effective prioritisation in an acute clinical setting.
• Experience in an acute healthcare setting.
• Experience assisting with patient education and exercise programs.
• Certificate III or IV in Allied Health Assistance.

Responsibilities

• Work within agreed care plans, manage a caseload of delegated patients and provide assessments and treatments as prescribed and delegated by clinicians.
• Document in patient records and provide feedback to delegating clinician on session outcomes and changes to patient status.
• Facilitate patient programs and group treatment sessions, provide education to patients on defined topics, order and provide equipment for patients.
• Set up and maintain gyms, therapy rooms, equipment, resources and assistive devices for programs.
• Develop and maintain clinical resources and patient education materials.
• Stocktake and order clinical equipment, supplies and consumables.
• Participate in the Allied Health Assistant rotation program (as relevant).
• Provide supervision, training and support to allied health assistant students and volunteers.
• Identify and contribute to quality/service improvement activities to improve clinical services.
