Job summary

FGI Developments in Cairns is seeking a skilled payroll professional for a full-time permanent role. You will manage weekly payroll for all staff, ensure accurate wages and statutory obligations, and maintain compliant payroll records within a supportive finance team.

This position requires strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, tax compliance and superannuation, with experience in payroll software and Excel data analysis.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a payroll function, ideally in accounting/finance.
• Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, tax compliance and superannuation requirements.
• Proficiency with payroll software systems and general accounting packages.
• Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills for data analysis and reconciliation.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks accurately.
• Understanding of the Fair Work Act and modern award conditions.
• Strong communication skills and handling of confidential information.
• CPA/CA or Diploma in Payroll Management are advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Process weekly payroll for all employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Calculate wages, salaries, allowances, deductions, leave entitlements and superannuation.
• Maintain accurate payroll records and employee files in compliance with legislation.
• Prepare and lodge payroll taxes, superannuation and other statutory obligations.
• Manage employee leave records (annual, sick, long service).
• Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies.
• Process terminations, final pay and related documentation.
• Liaise with external payroll service providers, accountants and tax authorities.
• Provide payroll reports to management and finance teams.
• Ensure compliance with Fair Work Act and award conditions.
• Respond to employee payroll enquiries promptly and professionally.
